dam.

it's driving me nuts. so, this semester i got a D+ in theology and consequentially will have to re-take it. don't know how i let this happen, just didn't care too much. i'm a big atheist and let the reins loose in that class. this dropped my overall gpa to 3.6. the annoying thing is that i got A- in 2nd semester orgo and the nasty d+ in theo 101. always had As and Bs, never had a C. now this d pops up. was on dean's list every semester and this semester won a scholarship and an award for outstanding sophmore.

how does this look to you and, more importantly, how will the schools look at it? i want to go to stritch, which is jesuit affiliated; would this burn me?

humanity classes are very important, and sometimes its what sets you apart from the rest of med school applicants, so take every humanity class as seriously as you would otherwise a science class.

it's not like its replaced..the grades are typically averaged.

Suck it up boy! You F-d up; retake the class and do better. In fact, get an A+. Don't worry about how schools will view the grade - you have it, you cant change it, and worrying about it wont improve your situation. It wont keep you out of medschool, but it will raise an eyebrow or two. Like I said, retake it and earn an A, and then move on. 👍

is theology that hard?

i want some of that dog burger.. supersize please.

If you are getting a D+ in theology and are an atheist, why do you want to go to Loyola?

A D+ always looks bad, no matter what class it is. If it's your only poor grade and your overall GPA is still high, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. However, I really don't know how that would factor in at Loyola considering it is a Catholic institution.

Looks like someone has some God issues 😉

Suck it up and do better next time, its not the end of the world. Take another Theo course and get that A to prove that the D+ was a one time thing.

Don't use the fact that you're an atheist as a reason why you got a low grade. Just retake it and move on. But I can't say how the adcoms will view it.

This post kind of scares me considering that I will be forced to take theology during my undergrad.

Either way, being an atheist is not an excuse. Although I will admit that any christian fundamentalist in your class will have an advantage, it is still possible to get an A in Theology. It's no different than any other humanities class.

Don't be afraid of theology, it's usually nothing killer from my experience

It's not a prereq so I wouldn't worry about it, just make sure you do better the second time around. You might be asked about during interview so be prepared that's all. I got a D in Electronics Lab and none of the schools cared. I was asked about it once in an interview.

D+ is bad, even if you are atheist. No excuse. 👎

They will probably be more concerned about your ****ty attitude toward religous people. I am not a christian and I think theology is fascinating. I would be more concerned about ADCOM's finding you small-minded rather that stupid.

PS: I got a D- in calculus I (I was one of those anti-math theists 😉, retook it and got a B and was still able to get into medical school. So, it is not a hug deal....just learn from it.

Getting a D+ in theology because you're an atheist is like getting a D+ in evolution because you're a creationist. Just because you dont believe in it doesn't mean you can't study for it.

Yes take a world religions class it is impossible.

God is obviously punishing you.

Priceless. No seriously, why Loyola for med school if you are an atheist? I almost went there but am a pretty spiritual person. Will you be comfortable in that environment?

Retake it if you want to. The grade will be averaged when you fill out AMCAS anyway. A lot of schools will also ask you if you have any semester or class that didnt reflect your true abilities, here is where you would discuss.

Stop making an excuse for yourself and get the grade you want. I wasn't really super-enthusiastic about Psychology when I took it, but I sucked it up, studied hard... and didn't do so well on the tests. But I did do my best on the online labs, and that saved me yet.

As an aside, does anyone know if this school (Loyola) gives an advantage to those people who attended a Jesuit college?

My thoughts exactly.

It's weak when religious types say they can't do well in Evolution/Ecology classes at my undergrad because they don't believe in evolution. You don't need to believe in evolution to get a test question about evolution right. Okay?

Loyola is a great school. If you're going to get all riled up about religious talk/symbols/whatever, then maybe a Jesuit institution isn't the best choice for you...if you can't at least be tolerant and not let it rip on people when you're there.
