Dansko and socks

I'm going to buy the professional Danskos with the back, but I'm not sure what kinda of socks to use with it - cotton tube sucks, or the nicer dress socks.
Why am I asking? It may affect the size.

To those that wear these shoes, how warm do they get?

I wear colored (as in not white, and to kinda match what I'm wearing) hiking/running socks from REI with my danskos (i have the black, brown, and cordovan (sp?)). I don't like wearing thin socks though. They don't get too warm (at least nothing like crocs).

this might sound gross, or maybe i'm just too much of a beach kid, but i don't wear socks with my dansko's. i used to, but one night on-call i woke up super fast and didn't have a chance to put the socks back on and i haven't been wearing socks since...

I usually wear white gym socks with them because I like to go to the gym after work. Be warned that the dye from black Danskos can rub onto your socks, especially if the shoes are new.

The color rubbing onto my socks is one reason why I try not to wear white socks with them. I would on surgery sometimes, but then I'd have red socks because of the cordovan red danskos.

My black and brown danskos are my clinic shoes, along with some tennis shoe like shoes (just as comfy, but more dressier looking).

I wear white tennis socks, but I don't wear Danskos with dress pants. If I were wearing Danskos with dress pants, I'd wear nude-color knee highs

I often wear fun socks...stripes/flowers/kitties/even the occasional pair with pom poms...(my favorite socks have 'sushi'...complete with fish, emblazoned on them)😍

I know it's a bit dorky, but when you're wearing the same scrubs every single day, it's nice to have a little variability in your wardrobe. Plus, some people even compliment me (er...maybe they just comment) on them.

On a side note, I only wear danskos with my scrubs...I'm almost 6 foot tall, and it's just difficult to find pants long enough to wear with them....and well, with danskos on I'm often taller then most of the guys (residents, attendings, students, nurses....)...a bit awkward..

I avoid scrubs at all costs, so I keep my socks muted. I have seen some men do this as well.

I don't, but I know exactly what Tired is talking about. I've seen very seasonal socks (Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) all year 'round. Stripes and argyle patterns galore! Etc.

I have some Merrell's that I wear to clinic. I tried Croc's and Dansko's for the OR but what works best for me is a pair of extra-cushion running shoes (AdiStar Cushion) with an added set of extra-arch-support insoles. By far the best thing for minimizing back/foot/knee pain--no sock issues if you don't tie them too tight.

Misterioso would probably call me out because real heavyweights, like his old-school surgeon-heroes, operate in black motorcycle boots with spikes on the toes.

So I finally made it to the mall and got the Mens professional Danskos. I find them quite effeminate.
The people at the store were very nice and appeared very knowledgeable. They said that your heel should not really touch the back, so I kinda don't get the point of having the back.

I wear Smartwools with my Dansko's. They have thick ones for the winter and thin for summer. Love them!! Worth every penny.

Me too. I stock up anytime REI has a sale.

Side note: Smartwool snowboarding and ski socks are also great.

I do have an attending in gyn-onc who wears cowboy boots exclusively. I can't imagine anything more painful. I'm having trouble just with tennis shoes.

I think cowboy boots work when they're broken in - njbmd wears these occasionally.

Tennis shoes aren't as good as Danskos, IMHO, because they lack proper arch support.

I have a pair of cowboy boots that I love, and another that I wear occasionally, but I could never operate in them. I have seen people do it, though. I tried Danskos too, and just couldn't get quite enough cushion. It's true that running shoes by themselves don't offer enough arch support, so that's why I go with the extra-cushion running shoes and some Dr. Scholls arch support insoles.

One of the orthopaedists at my school operates in galoshes that go above mid-calf worn over his scrubs.

I wear black athletic socks (Nike) with my black Dansko. Since the socks are black, I can't see the color wear off onto my sock.

I also have the black Danskos and wear black socks. I tried wearing white socks with them, but I have long legs and the hospital scrubs are always too short...so whenever I sat down they would ride up and IMO looked stupid(kinda like I was a school girl wearing her strappy Mary Jane shoes lol).
