Do you? 🙄

Given that the school already starts to accept applications but they have 'no ACPE status'. Do you dare to apply there?

Depends on the school. If it looks stand alone and not very readily prepared... then no. If it at least has some sort of school reputation, possibly. (it depends on the schools I've already applied to)

Which schools are you looking into?

I kind of feel the same. If it looks like a stand alone, I would be a little hesitant. But if it is part of a larger university that has other doctoral programs, such as a law school. Even a nursing school. I would feel more comfortable. I'm applying to 1 school this year with no ACPE status, but the should become pre-candidate I believe before I'd have to 100% commit to them.

Is that school Rosalind Franklin by chance? lol. I think that was the only school with no ACPE status yet that I might consider down the line.

And that was only last cycle!

CliffsNotes version: St. Joseph's had no ACPE status. They took applications, interviewed students, accepted students, took tuition deposits, then realized in the summer before matriculation that they should wait another year. So, if you apply to a "No ACPE status" school, I wouldn't turn down any other schools just in case...

I wouldn't. In this job market you need to get into the best school you can because they have more opportunities due to their established relationships.

Wow, this really sounds scary....Thank you for sharing though.
Hmmm... Now i'm confused... I would not waste couple hundreds dollars for the application to the school which is not sure to get started...
But then, if everyone else think the same thing, then who will be the 'pioneer' ? 🙄

My living room has no ACPE status...would you like to apply for only $75? I'm graduating this year, so I'll be able to teach you next year.

In all seriousness though, why do you want to go to a school that has no ACPE status? There are enough schools around now where it can't be a matter of geographic convenience, they certainly aren't going to be cheaper, and the faculty will be younger and have less experience. To top it off: they have the same accreditation status as my couch.

If your grades are that awful that you think you only have a shot at getting into an unaccredited school, then I would recommend reconsidering your career choice.

I just wanted to add that I don't see any advantage at all to applying to unaccredited schools, except perhaps it generates a sense of adventure. When comparing two options and one of them has only additional risk with no potential advantage...Why?

The "pioneers" of HICP lost a year of their life (+ no transferable credits) and tens of thousands of dollars.

The "pioneers" of St Joseph's lost the money associated with flying there for an interview + application + deposit fees.

Mostly, I would be cautious of stand alone pharm schools. Schools that are being opened at already established academic institutions (already a MD/DO, Nursing school) will usually get ACPE accreditation.

Nice thought...but Saint Joseph had a nursing school already before trying to open a SOP, so there goes your theory.

My thoughts? Any school that got the green light for a site visit this fall has a reasonable chance of getting pre-candidate status when the ACPE board meets in January. Only 3 of the 7 schools that made an initial application to open for 2011 got a site visit. Apply to those if you want; you'll know by January if those schools are viable options.

Saint Joseph is also up for a site visit this fall...though I have to wonder who would be applying there after last year's 'problems'.

Do it. It's like $75, that's nothing compared to what you'll spend. You won't even be able to enroll unless it crosses the pre-candidate threshold.

Ugh, some of you guys need to get used to doing research beyond simply looking at ACPE status (it's a start/prerequisite, but that's about it).

and kudos to whoever borrowed my "pharmacy school living room" post from a year or two ago. i see what you did there 👍

Is university of hawaii hilo, pharmacy that bad?

I'm considering going there..

There's nothing wrong with Hilo... it was Hawaii College of Pharmacy that had it's problems lol
