I am seeking advice on how to get a competitive residency at an academic institution. From what I've gathered

Dartmouth
- Good match list in the northeast academic institutions but lower rank
- Not as great in the research space as Emory
- Not very diverse clinical experience, more focused on rural health

Emory
- Good match list and higher rank
- Great research opportunities
- Amazing clinical experience

BU
- In Boston, so research opportunities are endless
- matches to northeast well but not as good as Dartmouth
- High class size which means a lot more competing.

I would appreciate any answers from M3s and M4s at these schools who have direct experiences going through rotations and speaking with program directors. What horror experiences have you heard, and what secretly great things have you heard?

Not a student at these schools but I will say that Emory is a clear winner among these schools unless there are factors that are keeping you from Atlanta.

It is the most prestigious and best research that you'll get which means the best chances of matching into competitive residencies. Boston has Mass General and the hospitals/research associated with Harvard but Atlanta has the CDC

Definitely Emory. And there will be horror stories at every school, I wouldn’t let that weigh too much. You’ll make the most of it and embrace challenges and grow.
