Darwin problem? more like religion problem

You must be kidding. People like this are ruining the science progress!

I am a Muslim by the way, and I believe in the Evolution.

I am kidding ofc, my muslim friend says he believes evolution is at work

just doesnt believe we come from monkeys thats all!

But on a more serious note, the thousands of comments on that article is not funny. I'd legitimately concerned if that represents the sentiment of the people.

take for example
Even Fundamentalists understand that evolution takes them back so far and then that's it. And, they are intelligent to recognize that science can not really tell them how the universe came into existence. So, until that is accomplished there is no valid reason to reject their faith in favor of qualified guesswork.

Erm, Well, that comment is serious, yeah, some people will never reject their faith whatever science tells them. As doctor Zakir Naik (an Islamic scholar) says If you found out a machine, and you wanna know how it works, whom will you ask? Who knows best about it? The designer....In case of the universe, it's God.

That's a good statement by your friend, like separating between religion and work. However, me as a Muslim, find the Evolution okay with my religion, and other things too like the big bang..I noticed verses in the Quran hinting at these.

By the way, guess you're not a theist, are you?

I dunno, I guess Im agnostic (one of them cool kids yeah?) but I still go to church because my parents go there AND I have to manage the sound systems and do recordings for the Sunday worship services. My parents are pretty adherent to religion and absolutely reject evolution.

Its not bad really, the church has hot girls.

I had that feeling, sometimes I feel like an agnostic/atheist. Mosques doesn't have hot girls though. But I am fine with my religion today anyway, looks like the most acceptable one out there, IMO.

The way my biology professor put it in undergrad, "if you don't believe in evolution, treat it like a game so it doesn't offend your religion."

Humans did not evolve from monkeys. Humans are more closely related to modern apes than to monkeys, but we didn't evolve from apes, either. Humans share a common ancestor with modern African apes, like gorillas and chimpanzees. Scientists believe this common ancestor existed
5 to 8 million years ago. Shortly thereafter, the species diverged into two separate lineages. One of these lineages ultimately evolved into gorillas and chimps, and the other evolved into early human ancestors called hominids.

I used to go the agnostic route but later realized it was just to keep within the social constructs of my surroundings and to avoid the strong negative connotations of atheism. A little independent thought and self-inspection later, I realized that was foolish. For those unsure and on the fence, "The God Delusion" by Dawkins is a must read.

I saw Dawkins when he came to speak in Arizona. He is amazing! And, yes, atheists are discriminated against more than most groups. I've learned not to care as much though. If people can talk openly about their Christianity, then I can talk openly about being an atheist.

I personally dont want anything to hamper me on the way, hence Agnostic.

No problemo

soooo....why is this in the pharmacy forum?

Well, it's in the pre-pharmacy forum, so why not? 😛

I think the original post was drawing a comparison between science scores and religiosity as a contrast to the article in the scholarly journal Huffington Post. And science scores are srs bsns in pre-pharm.

You see, in public forums usually religion vs reason threads spiral out of control. They usually get 4000+ posts until a mod removes them.

Im impressed this forum has it under control. Usually by now a forum like 4chan would have hundreds of Wall O' Text on this.

Shows the quality of the intelligence our types have
