I never really post on here but I am pissed off, disgusted and ashamed of myself. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar situation or know someone with dat scores like mine and what happened to them. Or has an admissions counselor or dean told u how they interpret scores?

My app was sent out August 9th and I have filled out sup apps but no interview or rejection.
Applied to lville, lsu, uab, ok, Baylor, mw az and il

I'm an Arkansas resident so we compete against each other at those schools since there is not a dental school here but I'm conflicted on what to do.

Here is what I also would like to know or get the scoop on.

If they only look at most recent score why does it matter # times u take it?
I know they don't avg the scores but isn't it obvious the sections for that particular test were tough as heck?

Thanks

yo man i feel ya bra.

I had a 17AA first time I took my test.

the second time I took it, I dropped to 15AA. fml.

Because getting a high score the first and only time looks better than getting a high score the second time, which looks better than getting a high score the third time, ad infinitum. One of the laws of nature, I believe.

Most schools take your best score within the 3 year time limit. Also, some schools have section cutoffs at 17, I'm not aware of the schools that you applied to have that standard. An AA of 18 is pretty average, these days to be considered competitive you need 20+ but if you follow the acceptance/interview/rejection thread of this year you'll see that people do get interviews with a sub-20 AA. If you're looking to find out about if other people have similar situations as yourself that ended with success, I suggest following the acceptance/interview/rejection thread of this year, and more importantly, last year's thread.

Totally disagree with 20+ is needed to be considered competitive (maybe for Harvard). 17 is the average for everyone and the average for applicants accepted is in the 18 to 19 range

Really ? Avg accepted AA is 18 or 19??? By looking through SDN predental, 95% applicants are 20+ ..... What is that then??

Actually, the national applicant DAT was a 18.7AA and enrollee DAT was a 19.9 (ADEA guide 2013, pg 47).

Which is basically a 20 😛

Thanks, I would like to think dat scores get u an interview but intangibles like personality, why dental, etc. gets you in. Otherwise why would they interview anybody?

LSU had told me that they take your best score on each section if you took the test within 2 or 3 years. But I think I read somewhere that they might be done with interviews until January. Give them a call to double check though. Otherwise, I like your list for sure. Also, I don't think the schools get your percentile rank on each subject. Just the score. So they can't really tell if you had a hard test

Most people on SDN are gunners. And most applicants aren't on SDN in the first place.

True, schools aren't sent your percentile for your exam, they only see the standard score.

3.6 overall and 3.6 science. I would've had around a 3.8 but made a 1.7 sophomore spring semester. That said I don't regret it at all bc it was the best time of my life lol.

From what my friends have told me gunners are screwed if they don't make whatever gpa they need to specialize. Also the orthodontist who invented the permanent retaininer, Dr. Rick roblee, told me how d school grades determine what you do. "The ones who make A's specialize, the ones who make B's are your best general dentists and the ones who make C's make the most money." This is evidence for the saying( I call it the first law of winning) it's not what u know its who u know.

Well there's your plan right there. If you get an interview, be sure to tell them about your first law (and if there's time, the second and third perhaps) and the merits of getting straight C's once you're in dental school. Also, make sure to mention you know the inventor of the permanent retainer, because it's not about what you know, but who you know.

#1 I hope talkin "trash" over the internet makes u feel better since it's obvious u have no self esteem.

#2 If u know the right people u don't have to explain bc they know

#3 I know I'm lowering myself to respond to u.
