DAT 11/14/09, Advices needed please!!!!

I took the DAT for the first time after studying for roughly 2 months. I was very nervous about the PAT section because i only scored 17 on the practice tests from CDP. However, i was very confident in the natural science before taking the test, but the result proved to be different, and I find that my DAT score did not REFLECT my ability as a student AT ALL. I am very discourage as of this moment because I am a senior this year and my desired school deadline is in Dec. so i can't retake it until february!!! Ahhh, so frustrated.😡 Here is a break down of my HORRIBLE score:
PAT 16😡
RC 18
QR 15
Bio 18
Gen 17
Org 17
TS 17
AA 17
A competitive score is a 19 for my desired dental school, so i don't think i have a shot for this cycle, but i am hoping that my GPA of 3.8 and my extracurricular activities and leadership position would help balance it out. Do you guys think i should even consider applying this year? I really really want to get in this cycle! thanks for all your time and advices🙂

I got a 17 too...I suggest applying next year and retake and study hard!!!

Sorry the DAT didn't go well for you, what study materials did you use? try going through the DAT forum and see what other people have done and what they have used in their studies. 2 months of studying is really solid, i don't mean to trash your score, but i am sure you would agree too that scoring 17 after 2 months of studying is horrible!

Did you try topscore? achiever? those are very good predictors of your score (achiver score+3=real DAT).

I don't think you should apply this year, simply because it's so late in the app cycle and no matter what your gpa is, a 17 is not going to cut it.

In all honesty, I say apply for this cycle; however, i do think a retake would seriously increase your chances on getting in a school for sure! Especially if you want to go to your "dream" school. Don't settle for a school you don't think you'll be 100% happy with. It's four years of your life you're going to be spending there. Other the other hand, your dream school might not stay your number one once you go to visit other schools, I know mine did at least!

Thank you for your taking your time to give me some advices and encouragements. I feel very grateful :> I am going to call my desired dental school tomorrow and ask them if my score is ok to apply this cycle? If not, I will definitely study a lot harder and smarter to boost up my score. @ wantUVCdental, I used only the kaplan blue book, CDP 5 tests version, and Achiever only. I am going to get Topscore for more practice. Can you please suggest what materials i should buy to prepare me more for Bio, GC, Org? Does destroyer have all of those? Looking forward to hearing from you @ gentile 1225, thank you for your honesty, makes me feel a little better! @ azn...... i wish you good luck on your DAT next time if you retake too!!!

Use Acheiver and Topscore near the time of the test for practice. Check out my post of my prep materials, some of which are on sale.

I had to take the DAT two times as well. Both times I got a 23 on the sciences. I think Campbells is very important for Bio, just my opinion. Good Luck.

Cheer up, 18 is above national average. I think if you are a Texas resident and that you applied early, you may stand a fair chance.
Just apply and hope for the best
