Just took my DAT on 7/16/11
GPA Overall-3.5 GPAs-3.51 BCP-3.46
PAT-19 (69.4)
QR-18 (86.6)
RC-19 (67.6)
Bio-18 (72.1)
GenChem-22 (95.2)
Orgo-21 (89.7)
TS-20 (91.3)
AA-20 (93.4)
Overall Im content with my scores. I thought it went A LOT worse. If I had to do it all over I would have done things a little differently. Heres my breakdown.
PAT- I just did CDP. Keyholes and ESPECIALLY ANGLE RANKING were harder on the real DAT. Cube Counting and Hole punching were easier. TFE and Pattern folding were on par. One thing I struggled with was TFE visualising so all I did was line count for ALL the CDP tests. But on the real thing it will elimate one or two but not all. My suggestion. Use Line Counting soley at first and overtime you will be able to visualize it. I never got pattern folding well so I left 5 minutes for this and guessed on everything I couldnt get. My scores arent great but im not complaining.
QR- I didnt study too much but if you want atleast an 18 go over the DAT destroyer 150 or so math problems, kaplan practice test. Those are the only things I did. I wish I had gone over trig a bit more cause they had some basic period questions which I forgot. Overall basic questions, I went thru and did the non story probs first. This section is NOT HARD. I spent a composite 3 hours for this section including practice tests. I skimmed the QR of the destroyer and did 1 kaplan test(which helped the most).
RC- I studies a complete 2 hours for this including the practice tests. I was SOOO worried because I was getting 16 and 17s on the practice tests. But on the real thing it was a JOKE, a JOKE. Some of the answers were common sense (super super obvious), and others you could answer with your knowledge of science. I didnt do really well in this section but then again I didnt really study.
Bio- I studies SOOOOO much for this section. And I made flashcards (cuecard program) for every chapter of cliff and the information in KAPLAN WHITE (my sister took program when she applied so I had the book). In the end I just kept reading and didnt get to go thru all my flashcards. But im glad i didnt because the questions were sooo obscure. If I had to do it again. I would have soley used kaplan WHITE not BLUE, white has much more. And I woud have read the chapters in Raven Bio on Genetics and if you had time go over the sections on the body systems. After that just do the AP problems in Cliffs and Barons and dont memorize the answers u got wrong but go back and understand the BIGGER PICTURE. I just felt like this section is luck of the draw, because it really depends on what type of questions you get. I honestly thought I did a lot worse than 18 so even though this wasnt a good score im still satisfied.
Gchem- I took 2 topscore tests and 1 kaplan. The topscore tests are a copy of the material from the kaplan WHITE book questions. I got a 16 and an 18 on this section always running out of time. On the real thing the questions are a lot simpler and not as many calculations. I did Bio section 1st, then orgo, and was left with 43 minutes for Gchem where I relaxed and did the concept and super simple questions first then went back and did the calculation and equation questions. Worked out well in my opinion. I used the DAT destroyer which was useful and WHITE book questions (more useful). To be safe I would go over both but if crushed for time all thats necessary is Kaplan white.
Orgo- I spent like 20 minutes on this. I didnt think I missed any but I probably did something stupid. This DAT Destroyer is overkill but its still really good, dont need to know some of the obscure stuff in there. The KAPLAN class flashcards were really good too. Just know the basics like substit elimination, acid base, function of activator deactivators, and naming (kaplan really good with this). Last thing the DESTROYER LACKS in LAB TECHNIQUES. Read the White or Blue book section on this, its REALLY good and will help with gchem too.
My scores arent stellar like many people on this site but I honestly put a lot of effort into the sciences and PAT. I think its crucial to spend a least the last 2 and a half weeks studying HARD for this test. In general the test isnt very exhausting, It gets over quick.
