I officially start my summer today. Thought this day would never come...
Bio - 20
G Chem - 21
O CHem - 19 (didnt know how i did that)
PAT - 24
Rc - 20
QR - 23
TS : 20
AA: 21 (91.0%)
BIO I agree with the fact that everything is game on this section. Make sure you leave no stone unturned. The more you study, the less of a chance for a perplexing question to come up and completely throw you off guard. The questions werent too hard in general, just made you think a little if you didnt know it off the top of your head. I suggest you sub in the ap cliffs bio book for the Kaplan bio section in the blue book. I had a picture that I had to determine where it would be in the body. I ended up marking 5 questions on this section.
G Chem This question is very conceptual. All calculations are written out which I liked. Doesnt go into as much detail as I expected. There were a few tricky questions here and there but dont fret. Just make sure you know how to do Lewis structures and your basic concepts. Marked 5 on this section
O Chem I was completely astounded and rather pissed at myself with the result I got on this section. I felt the most confidence in this section of tall the sciences. But what can I do, I guess Ill have to settle for a 19. Just know your reactions and your basic reasons why. Didnt see a single crazy or out of the blue reaction. Marked 2 on this section
PAT I just loved this section. This was a lot easier than Achiever AND TS. I never really sat down and practiced this exam. The Keyholes I typically have difficulty with, but they were very simple and straightforward. The TFE Im usually pretty good with these and today was no different. Angles were nothing like the achiever or TS version. I dont know if it was my computer or the program I had, but angles were as smooth as a babys gluteus maximus. And I put practically every piece of paper, pencil, or ID card at some point during this section. The proctor also never mentioned anything as she passed by, so I guess she didnt really care. Cube counting is like any other cube counting. And finally, pattern folding had a couple of tricky ones, but that was about it. Nothing really mind bending.
RC First off, I loathe this section. And I never practiced this after my first 2 practice exams I took in early June. I pretty much stuck with this method I used on the practice exams. This was, I would read as much as possible in the first passage until I got bored or I lost concentration while I was reading it. I would typically get through about 6-7 paragraphs (1/2 the passage) and then I would move onto the first 6-7 questions of the passage. By the time I was done with those, I found there was a term in the next question that I didnt come across, so I would go back to reading the passage until I was done. Finally I would finish the passage and answer the rest of the questions. IMHO, I find the method of looking at the questions and then backtracking as being a little too risky. For me this method is rather dependable and will pretty much get you solid scores and maybe some eye popping ones if you are really good at it. These are just my 2 cents. And for those of you who are scared of the tone questions, dont fret, as they are pretty simple and I only had 12 total questions of this kind.
QR When I was heading into this section, I thought there was going to be 20 trig questions and 20 long a$$ word problems like the horror stories I was reading here on SDN. In reality, I had maybe 3 trig questions and word problems that had very simple calculations. I prepped for this section by doing half of DAT destroyer and in particular the sections for Trig and Permutation calculations, since I didnt know how to do these. An hour before the exam, I quickly remembered some trig functions and the perm. Equation. I wrote these down as soon as I got into the center with my laminated sheets. Plus, if I ever got into any trouble with the trig functions, I would algebraically attempt to solve the problem; ended up working wonders for me. There was one question I didnt know how to do and another I didnt know how to attack at the time. This section was a lot of fun just like PAT. Im typically pretty good with algebra and all that jazz, so studying for it wasnt a big concern.
For everyone who is taking this exam in the upcoming weeks and months make sure you go over every little bit of info over and over and over again. I wish I could go back and really study for those sciences, now that I know what the exam looks like. But, IMO, a big factor of your score is based on whether you can identify the traps and the little details that differentiate between the right and wrong answer. Of course this is all interlinked with the fact of whether you know your material or not. Just make sure you are constantly aware of what the question is asking for. This exam is LONG and it can take quite a toll on you, so dont lose your concentration. Also, heading into that room with a good amount of confidence will do wonders. You all have studied and invested a large amount of time into this exam and with adequate preparation, you will not do poorly unless you tell yourself that you will. And finally, I promise you all that you will find questions that will have you undecided but make sure you keep your head high and keep on truckin.
Finally, I wanted to know what everyones input is on these scores. Plus i'm an entering junior this fall and my gpa is pure crap with a number of 2.9. Of course, I will b putting my hardest effort into getting a straight 4.0 for this year (hopefully bring that piece up to a 3.2), but I understand if will not get in next year when I apply. So I am willing to invest another year into this bad boy. Thank you all for your input and all of your help. Damn does it feel good to be done with this. Good luck to everyone.
Now time to watch some Entourage. Long live Johnny Drama!!!!
- Started studying in the middle of may, really started cracking down in the middle of June
- Purchased the Destroyer and Achiever and Topscore
- Destroyer: Went through once on the last week before the exam. I was nailing about 80% of all the bio and orgo and about 90% of gchem and practically all of the math. its a good way to test yourself and see whether you know the material or if you should keep studying. (Rating: 7/10)
- Achiever and Topscore i did over and over until i understood why i made the mistakes and exactly what info i was missing. (Rating: 8/10)
- Kaplan Course --pros: shadowed teacher who was a dental student at my local dental school; good resources; gives you the push to study --cons: costs a buttload (Rating: 3/10)
Bio - 20
G Chem - 21
O CHem - 19 (didnt know how i did that)
PAT - 24
Rc - 20
QR - 23
TS : 20
AA: 21 (91.0%)
