hi everyone.

Ive got a big decision to make.

I had a pretty good (probly not on SDN standard but still) DAT score
AA21 PAT21
none of the score was lower than 20.

however, that was 2 years ago. 🙁
So i figured i would have to retake the exam so I signed up.
But I only had like a week to prepare. (family funeral etc..)

So the test is upon me on 12th (tommorow!) but I am still not very confident.

Should I just not show up, and perhaps take it some other time?
maybe I will call schools to see if they would take my score from 2 years back?

I am not sure if I am ready enough to better my previous score..

man, i don't know.

please help out a brotha to decide will ya?

Are you serious? Why on earth would you want to retake your scores. You've been on SDN for to long.

wait. 21 AA and 21 PAT, and you haven't got into anywhere??
what was ur gpa?
because ur dat scores are not bad at all and if you got rejected from dental schools with ur dat score, that means u gotta raise ur dat scores upto about 23 at least.

You are either incredibly smart or incredibly arrogant.

Why don't you reschedule it ? Up to I believe 72 hours before the exam, you can pay an additional $25 and reschedule the exam.

It depends on schools, no older than 3 years for some and 5 for the others. Your score is still valid. You have a good score but I don't know why you want to retake it. Also, you can try the test tomorrow. If you're not satisfied, you still can void the score at the end and it won't show up on your DAT transcript.

As far as I know, you CAN'T VOID your DAT score. I think only GRE allows that

It's hard to imagine that someone who could score so well on the DAT wouldn't think to do a little research and find out the his scores are still valid and a retake is not necessary.

i agree....these scores are good....people on this site are seriously panicked and redic!!!....everyone seriously needs to take some deep breaths and relax......ive already been through 3 application cycles!!.....the average is 3-4....so dont shoot urselves in the head if you dont get in the first few times....its normal.....a masters degree is almost a must at this point if you want to be competitive.....

A personal experience a generalization doesn't make.

uhhh i find that very hard to believe...and I'm fully aware that SDN is not representative of the applicant pool.

There's nothing normal about having to go through 4 admissions cycles to get in.

Thank you for discounting this generalization. I'm sure taking 4 cycles to get in is about as "normal" as having a heart attack at age 21, which is what almost just happened to me when I read that post...

I REALLY don't want to do this 3 more times:scared:

What is your GPA/DAT scores?

This FREAKS me out. He has been saying this on other posts too.... I'm applying next year... is it reasonable for me to think that I can get in with one cycle with a gpa of around 3.3-.4? My practice DAT has been from 20-22 AA (topscore).
I don't want to fool around for three more years!

The average is NOT 3-4 years. That would mean that for every applicant that got in on the first try (and there are well over 1,000 of them) there is an applicant getting in on their 6th or 7th try. I doubt there are more then a few 6th and 7th time applicants.. Don't be concerned about it. I had similar stats to you and got in my first attempt. Just remember that stats aren't what it's all about. If you are an exceptional applicant in other areas, with your stats, you'll have no problem getting in.

If you have to apply 3-4 times, there is something seriously wrong with your application and you really need to step back and reassess (and not keep reapplying).
