DAT/Applying Opinion

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You'll be at a bit of a disadvantage because even though you applied early, they won't look at your application until they receive your DAT scores.

I would suggest doing a masters if you aren't a URM. You will need an amazing dat score to offset that gpa on top of not applying first cycle.

Thank you. So it wouldn't really matter if I submit my application June 1 or Mid August?

I am a non-traditional student, I'm getting old over here & poor; I don't think I will be able to afford the masters program.

I don't think it would make too much of a difference.

If not a masters, you should consider a post bacc program to at least raise that science gpa to at least a 3.0, usually a minimum requirement for many schools. But if you do stellar on the DAT, you'll have a decent chance getting in this cycle.

As a Texas resident, where we like to do everything early, I would recommend submitting your application as soon as you can, writing down that you will be taking the DAT in August, then simply forwarding the scores to AADSAS once the test is completed. This way, at least a lot of your application will be processed before final completion once your DAT scores go in. There will be less of a "wait time" between sending in the DAT score -> whole app package being sent to schools, versus if you wait until then, which may result in 3-4 weeks of just AADSAS processing your transcripts/documents.

For reference, my 2014 application year I did what everyone else suggested - holding off sending in the app until after my test was taken (I took mine 8/3). Out of 13 schools that year I got zero interviews.
