Hey guys,

So I just started studying for DAT and I started with reading the Cliffs AP Bio book and have been taking notes as I read. My question is did you guys first read the whole book and then actually started memorizing the information (enzymes, mechanisms, hormones, e.t.c) or memorized as you were reading the chapters? And when should I begin the practice problems? I feel like I am all over the place right now.

Also, for cell respiration how much in detail do we have to know the Kreb cycle and glycolysis? And should we know any molecular structures?

For bio, I recommend you go hard on DAT Destroyer. Know the bio section (questions and answers) inside and out. I initially tried sitting down with Cliffs and Feralis and quickly realized that studying an encyclopedia with hundreds of bolded terms wasn't for me. (Definitely works for some!) Knowing Destroyer bio and supplementing that with DAT Bootcamp bio got me a 22 on that section. Those were my only 2 resources. Good luck!

You should know the basic steps, important enzymes, and inputs/outputs of the biochemical pathways. I was never asked to identify a molecular structure in the bio section.

What I did for bio was I read the book over once, highlighted some stuff and re-read some important chapters (Cliffs AP Bio), and put it down for a bit. Moved on to other sections. Then I went back and read it again about 2 weeks from my exam. I had some flashcards from AP Bio in HS so I used those like once every two days. Then once I had quizzed myself and read the book twice, I did the DAT Destroyer for bio section and went back to things I didn't know. Finally I started going through the DAT Bootcamp tests and went back over the things I didn't remember and added more flashcards. Up until the day before test day, I was adding flashcards and quizzing myself. I had a 23 in the Bio section so I'm happy with what I did and it got results.
Good luck 🙂

use my notes to learn everything

Definitely know the answers to the DAT Destroyer Biology section. I went through the Bio section maybe 3-ish times and understood why the answers were correct and why the other answers were incorrect. Understand what each answer choice is and how it may play a part in a certain pathway or system. Anything I was really shaky on (DNA replication, cell resp, and photosynthesis were hard for me), I watched the bio crash course videos on youtube, then supplemented it with both the Kaplan book and Cliff's. When I first sat down to study the DAT bio section, I was just taking notes on Cliffs and Kaplan chapters, but it was too hard to possibly absorb all of the information. The DAT Destroyer definitely pinpoints the areas you need to have down pat. I also made flashcards from the Kaplan Bio book, but honestly I never went over the flashcards so it was a waste. Good luck!
