What is the latest that I should take the DAT, knowing that my deadlines don't begin until Jan 1, 2005?

Most people applying for Fall 2005 entry will have taken their DATs before or during the summer of 2004.

The first batch of acceptance letters will be going out from all dental schools on Dec. 1, and after that, your chances drop precipitously unless you have brain-busting GPA.

You better hurry..

the deadlines are jan 1, but no one waits so late...
u shud have sent out ur application or shud do so asap..and take the dat asap too!
good luck!

well what is ur gpa? if it's above a 3.5 then it's probably ok if u haven't taken ur DAT yet..have u submitted ur application yet? if not i would do that ASAP and just put down on it when u plan on taking the DAT..have u begun studying for it at all?

I definitely started studying for the DAT, and now plan on taking no later than Nov. 30. My GPA is over 3.5, but I don't count on anything like that. I am doing all this last minute but better late than never. Thankyou for the feedback.

you know I would almost venture to say that it would be best if you:

filled out everything in AADSAS and sent all LOR's and transcripts now.

Study hard and take the dat in about 3 weeks. I think you would have an easier time getting in with say, 18's now then with 20's in december. Plus 3 weeks of good studying is probably going to get you far enough to do very well.

Remember that right now if a school has, say, 100 spots, all you have to do is fit the norm to get in. But if by December it has already filled 70 of the spots, they will only take the best of the remainder, which may be a lot more competitive than trying to get in now.

Some schools send out plenty of acceptances knowing that a lot will opt for some other school. Don't let the adcoms get to where they can be picky about the remaining students.

I disagree. I know of at least 6 friends who have gotten in applying in late november. Also, I keep hearing that AADSAS takes about a month to process your app. All 6 of my friends got their secondaries within 2 weeks of sending in AADSAS.

Don't rush like a madman to take the DAT's..do it at your own pace but make sure you have it done by around early November..I wouldn't tempt fate by waiting any longer than that. You have the 3.5+ which is good so no need to panic. Basically if you pulled off 20's in early november I wouldn't worry about anything too much, worst comes to worst you would get waitlisted and probably end up getting in anyways..good luck.
