Dat Destoyer Or Dat Achiever

Hi all,
I need some advice this is my 3rd post and I needed some direction when study for the DATS. I need to know which study tool is better to use in my preparations of the real DAT test, DAT DESTROYER or DAT ACHIEVER? Please someone help me with this question.

my recommendation would be buy the kaplan book study everything, in and out, but dont' take the course its really a waste.
then buy the dat destroyer and study everything in and out, you'll be shocked to see that alot of questions you are unable to do, but don't worry everything will be fine....its a GREATTTTTTTTTT book, you will learn alot.
then if you wanna score high buy both top score and achiever...again, alot of questions you wont be able to do cause its very hard, but don't worry because the test is not as hard, its actually way easier.
i would defenitly recommend barrron's number one for DAT....defenitly for preceptual ability and some of the math problems.
i honestly have studied this way....you can prove your reading buy buying some hard scientific books and just read it.

p.s. forgot to mention when to study....if you are applying for next year...defenitly don't take the DAT after august....August is good...some schools say they want the score no later than october but i would defenitly recommend no later than august....but make sure you are ready for the test, its better for you to get a good score and go one more year later than rush it out

I agree with Zodiac, all those prep materials is great. I took the Kaplan course and found it to be a waste (sorry Kaplan tutors, it's not a dis on you).

As for when.....i took my DAT's Sept. 10th 2001. It wasn't the brightest decision, but i was lucky on alot of things. You should take it ASAP if you want to apply for 2008. Otherwise take it in May. You'll have an opportunity to retake it if you need to.

I AGREE WITH All that WAS SAID. BUT I SUGGEST LOOKING IN TEXTBOOKS AS WELL. AND DESTROYER IS GREAT ALONG WITH OTHER TOOLS. GOOD LUCK!!!

destroyer is pretty challenging. it's pretty much beating me up to where i don't even feel remotely competent. so sad. 🙁 but i'm gonna keep at it and if i can get these destroyer problems then hopefully i'll be ok on the actual DAT like some have previously mentioned.

Thanks for your input, but I thought Kaplan is a waste of time b/c it go through the information with very little detail. I relied on the Kaplan prep book and only recieved a AA18, and PAT 17. So I figured I'd buy the Destroyer. But now I have another problem with the Destroyer, its all questions, and no review info. Its also very challenging as too probably won't see these questions on the DATs. I've gone through Kaplan book twice now, and basically am just doing practice tests. If anyone has any other suggestions plz let me know, once again I appreciate your inputs. Good luck to all

I feel the destroyer is meant to fine-tune your knowledge. It goes through most important topics that will be covered on the exam. I've heard it is a good idea to have a relatively strong background in each section (whether it means going over the kaplan blue book one more time) before advancing onto the Destroyer. Personally, I feel very weak in Gen Chem so I'm breaking out the old AP books 🙁 before I review Destroyer again.

Destroyer is all problems. Not like Kaplan at all.

However, the solutions for the Destroyer are very comprehensive, so they give you quite a review in and of themselves.

You need Kaplan to give you a hold on basic college-level science you may have forgotten or were not taught, but Destroyer is your key to kicking A@@ on those tough questions that the DAT throws at you. It gives you an edge and makes your science mind sharper and ready to tackle the questions that separate the AA18 students from the AA23 students.
