I just took mine yesterday for the first time, and just wanted thank everyone on the forum for providing so much detailed information on dat.
My scores were,
BIO 17
GC 23
OC 21
RC 18
PAT 19
QR 25

21 AA (93%) 20 TS

Brief overview: Bio section was surprisingly straightforward except 7 or 8 random questions that I had no option but to guess. I had the piano passage for the reading, as soon as I saw the passage I skipped right into the other passages and did them first. For pat, I have been getting 24s and 25s on cdp, but I still don't know what happened there...😡

I will post my breakdown if anybody wants it, but I am having a difficult time deciding if I should do a retake to be a competitive applicant.
I have 3.65 overrall and 3.67 science GPA.

HEY CONGRATS!!! Dude a 21 is competitive! You will be fine! RELAX! 🙂

Can you please tell me what you used for GC OC & Math? im dying to know thanks.

And can you please tell me how the exam was on those sections? like were they straight forward or if you can compare it with kaplan online.

Thanks again

For GC & OC & QR, I used Destroyer and Math Destroyer extensively. I watched CHAD videos first then went over the destroyer a couple times. On the actual test, GC was very similiar to destroyer except it was much simpler, and OC had two very specific IR questions that I never expected see on the DAT. Those IR questions were harder and required more in-depth knowledge than stuff from my orgo2 lab final from last semester 😕.
If you are worried about QR section, make sure you know how to do all the problems from the math destroyer (within a minute) and you should be ready to rock it.

What do you mean piano passage? Was it a passage you saw somewhere before?

Search for piano in this forum, you'll get a better idea what this means.

Mr. Bourne, I'd love to hear a nice solid breakdown, but if you could at least share what you ate on your break...😉, not only will it help us, but it'll give yourself a nice outline of what you did in case you decide to retake -- I'm not suggesting a retake personally as I think you have some good scores.

Congrats in any case, you've slain the beast!

General rule of thumb: anything below an 18 in a competitive section warrants a second look. If you have the willpower, you could always retake, but that's a pain in the butt. A 17 isn't that bad. If you got something like a 15-16 I would say retake.

To be honest, I think you are fine. Your gpa and overall/ts are sufficient enough to most likely land you an interview. Perhaps in the interview, they may ask why you received the 17.

That being said, it will probably lessen your chances are more competitive schools. So it all depends on what schools you are applying to.

Thank you all for your cheering advice 🙂 My top choice schools are Maryland and VCU which are close to where I live, and I think I will be applying with those scores. Now more details about the actual DAT,

I don't know if it was just the version of the exam I had, but BIO and PAT sections were way harder than topscore, CDP, or even Achiever to some degree. For BIO, I score 23/19/21 on topscore and ended up getting 17 on the real thing. PAT like I said above, 23/24/23/25/24 for the five version, and again got 19 on the actual. I have read many posts where SDNers mentioned that they actually scored a couple points higher on the actual DAT, it was the opposite for me. My suggestion for all of you who have not taken the DAT yet, do not rely on the practice scores and keep practicing and broaden you knowledge especially for bio section. BTW, piano passage wasnt impossible, I found it quite interesting lol.
