So...I took the DAT today. Let me know what you think my chances are. Thanks!

Total GPA: 3.44
Sci GPA: 3.49
BCP GPA: 3.59

DAT
PA: 18
TS: 19
AA: 19

I have over 1500hrs of leadership involvement and community service (I'm a non-trad who was a pastoral intern/youth director for a year while in seminary). I have some dental involvement (shadowing general dentists), other ec's, good letters of recommendation (I hope at least!...they should be though).

I'm applying to 25 schools (I'm from GA).

I'll list the schools if it makes any difference for anyone...

Thanks for your input!

Hi, sorry to break it to ya but I had similiar stats and didn't get into any school until i retook the dat and got pa/aa/ts all above 21. I had more than 2000 hours of intern/work at office experience, and a bunch of research and leadership stats. Maybe I just had bad luck. I hope it doesn't happen to you. If you don't get in this year, I recommend retaking dat

How many schools did you apply to?

You'll be fine.

I had a 3.3 gpa and 3.2 sgpa.

19/19/22

I applied to 14 schools. Interviewed at 3. Accepted at 1 and waitlisted at 1.

What schools gave you interviews? When did you submit your application?

Forgot to mention that I am applying early...my application is complete (including LOR's) and is being sent out on 7/9.

It seems like you're kind of on the average side of competitiveness.

I think you should have a decent shot at some well selected schools. All of your GPAs are in relatively good shape.

I don't see why you wouldn't score some interviews and some acceptances.

What is your total score break down?

You'll get in. Apply early (get your stuff in before July 15th at the very latest) and apply to +10 schools. You'll have to be flexible on where you go and go to all your interviews but I'm pretty confident you'll get in somewhere.

What schools gave you interviews? When did you submit your application?

Baylor, SA, and BU.

Accepted at BU and waitlisted at Baylor.

There are plenty of people that get in with below a 3.5 and below 20AA. You just have to be wise about where you apply and you have to be very strong in the leadership, community service, and essay aspect.

During one of my interviews, the adcom told me they rejected a 3.8 from UCLA with a 22 DAT because of her horrible people skills after an interview. They don't just want bookworms. They want applicants that will represent them well after they graduate.

Don't be discouraged by previous posts. You are going to be fine as long as everything else is in order, which it seems to be. It's great you are applying early and your DAT's look good. Your PAT is a bit below average and that's really the only thing holding your scores back, IMO. The GC isn't great but your other science scores balance it out. Personally, I think 25 schools may be a bit overkill but if you got the money and want to, go for it! PM me if you wanna discuss schools. I wouldn't mind looking at your list. Good Luck!

Did any of the schools have a minimum section requirement?

I was thinking the same thing.

Sometimes certain schools will set a minimum for each section (it seems typically around 16-17).

Luckily, none of the 25 schools I'm applying to have a minimum for the QR. And its really the only section that i bombed....

I think with that GPA, you will be fine. I myself havent applied but talking with Ms. Perry, the head of admissions @ MCG the scores you have reflect their incoming class this year...I noticed your from Atlanta, so definately apply @ MCG and since they ONLY let in us GA residents you should be good👍

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Thanks man! Yes, I am definitively applying to MCG. Are you applying this cycle as well?

I must have missed it before, but I didn't notice that your BCP GPA is so strong.

Given this, I think you should have a very good chance of gaining admission somewhere! 😉

Only thing that might hold you back a bit is that darn RC score. 🙁

out of curiosity, would you mind sharing why you dropped out of seminary school to pursue dentistry?

i think your stats are fine, and if you have a good reason to my above question, then you would definitely be a unique applicant

You have the average stats. Your best bet is to apply EARLY.

You have a good shot, apply to alot of schools.

good luck!

You mean QR? I got a 21 on the RC...is that bad?

It's a long story and the theme of my personal statement. Suffice it to say that I was originally pursuing something in the health field when I entered college until I heard of Darwin and other scientific facts that clashed with my Christian upbringing. This led me to some serious soul searching and a decision to change schools/majors and pursue the ministry. While in seminary and preaching as a pastoral intern I restudied the issues that originally turned me away from science. The evidence convinced me. I realized the ministry was not for me and something was missing in my life. So here I am with a renewed passion and zeal for science and nothing holding me back from pursuing it!

I think you'll be okay since your applying to 25 schools. Its just hard for me to believe someone with your number is going to get rejected from 25 schools.

👍

And, yes, I meant your QR score (not your RC score).

Your GPA looks good...are you applying this year? What schools have you applied to so far?
