So heres the thing. My AADSAS gpa and sgpa is a 3.0, my transcript gpa is a 3.2. However, if you take my freshman year out of the equation I have a 3.4 overall and science is about the same. I am a california resident and have applied to all the california schools except UCLA and 10 other schools including BU, Tufts, and NYU. I have been dreading my freshman year ever since I really decided I wanted to go to dental school(right after my freshman year). I feel like I need to all the schools I am applying to and beg them to take a look and my last three years which have been pretty solid( A's and B's). Should I call them?? I dont think it would hurt. Also, does every school look at every single application throughly. To me it seems like they wouldnt have time for that. Any advice and opinions are much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

AADSAS has already calculated GPAs for each of 4 years. So, schools that look for significant upward trend will easily notice your improvement.

They will notice the upward trend and that your freshman year does not represent your abilities, but I am 100% sure that not one dental school will take it out of the equation.
You are still in good shape.
good luck

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys, I appreciate it. Would love to hear what anyone else thinks about my chances. Also, should I call all the schools and give them a heads up? Or is that a bad idea. Any input would be great. Thanks

Your no.s are solid. You should get lots of interviews.

Word to the wise, you'll be asked why do you want to come to a school that is not from CA...e.g "Why do you want to XYZ? It snows here. Have you lived in a place with snow?"

OR

"If you get accepted here, and UCLA/UCSF...which would you choose?"

Believe it or not CA residents are double whammy...you compete for competitive seats at CA schools, and you fight for seats that schools outside CA deem reserved for their own state resident.

The curse of living in paradise!

Good luck to you.

I agree with that statement. I to applied as a CA resident, and got asked those exact questions. Why this school? What about the weather, can you handle living in this city? What makes our school good for you? It really is tough...but if your qualified your qualified and will get in to a school.

Great Scores....You should definitely get some interviews. I talked with the admissions director at UMDNJ (idk if you applied there) and he said generally Adcoms look for an upward trend, and thats good that you improved a lot. Just make sure you explain that in interviews and it mightve been a good idea to put that in your personal statement but it is prob too late for that! Good Luck!
