Hey Guys.... so I just finished the DAT earlier today and I'm sooo happy to be done. This forum has been a great help to me so I thought I would share my results/study methods like so many others have done. My scores are :

PAT 20
QR 21
RC 24
Bio 20
GC 21
OC 27
AA 23

I used Kaplan as a base for studying, which provides a pretty solid foundation for all topics, but lacks in details. To supplement this, I also used DAT Destroyer which was great for natural sciences. Schaum's bio helped where Kaplan was weak in area of biology, and I also used Achiever and Topscore to gauge my progress through studying. Achiever is WAY harder than the real thing, if you can get ~20 on achiever, you will do really well on the real DAT. Anyways, I don't really know what else to say, but if anyone has any questions let me know and I'll be glad to help out in any way I can!

Great scores! Do you think that achiever Orgo is harder? Thanks!

Achiever orgo is definitely harder. Also, I had 2 NMR questions on my exam and 1 IR Spec question, which I didn't really study for much at all. GL with studying!

awesome scores, one of my buddies took the DAT today and did really bad on it, i was wondering if u had the same test with him? did u have any questions about the FRP or something? what kind of lab questions did u have or how many?

I didn't have any questions about FRP (Fluorescent Recovery after Photobleaching) but I heard the test that had that question was really hard. I only had one question about chem lab techniques. I took the test in Lake Forest in Southern California.

great score, you should be able to get in pretty much any school you want with those score. Just wondering, what school are you going to? UCI? I have a couple of questions for you. what method did you use for RC? what did you use to study for QR? Thanks!

Yea, I got to UCI. My initial plan for RC was to use Kaplan's method where you read the first paragraph and skim the body paragraphs for the keywords/numbers, but there wasn't enough time for this. I ended up just skimming the passages looking for keywords and got really lucky in finding things. For qr, I used kaplan and destroyer a little bit at the beginning, but mostly I just learned from topscore/achiever and used wikipedia a little bit for probability stuff. I'm fairly quick when it comes to math though, so this might be why. Are you currently attending UCI?

Congratulations in your scores they are awesome. I have the same question as therealsquat.......🙂

Well, I scheduled my test for March 28th over the summer, but I didn't start studying until the beginning of January. For the first month or so, I studied ~3-4 hours on weekdays in a more relaxed setting. When the middle of February hit, I started to get worried about the test and began studying ~4-5 hours every day and taking a diagnostic on the weekends. My studying is not very efficient though and I often tend to take naps when I study(unfortunate disease known as food coma) so I would say I actually studied around 3-4 hours every day for about a month or so until 2 weeks before the test when I buckled down and started studying pretty much from sunrise to sunset(taking breaks of course) in order to review the material I had looked at previously. Hope this helped!

GREAT WORK!
You said achiever has tough practice tests.
And Kaplans?
I'm taking Kaplan right now (took 2 practices) and I was wondering if I should expect lower or higher real scores.
Thanks

Dude great scores Especially the orgo!! What preps did you use for the orgo section?

Damn, so many people are getting killer scores lately. Congratulations on the test. Doesn't it feel good that all your hard work payed off?

yeah seriously everyone posting is crushing the DAT ... congrats to you all.

how did this forum helped you to get prepared for DAT?
thanks.

For me, this forum helped me decide what material to use to study and also was an invaluable resource for questions about many different topics. Also, other people posting questions about different topics helped me test my knowledge of those topics to see if I could solve their problems. Of course this forum does not replace studying, it is a very good resource to help gauge how you are doing and to get feedback from others. 👍

Could u please post you scores from achiever?

First achiever test I took I got a 19 AA, then got a 23 AA on the 2nd one, then a 21 AA on the last one. The highest I got on either Topscore or Achiever was 23 and that was mostly due to high QR (I got 29 on two of the QR sections for Achiever, but didn't do quite as well on test day)

Was Schaum's Bio good for plant info that we need to know for the DAT?
I had zero plant stuff in college since I was a biochem/microbio major, so I'm pretty weak in this area. I was thinking about just "Wikipediaing" this info, so do you think Schaum's is worth getting just for plant info?

Thanks, and nice scores!

Schaum's bio does a pretty good job of preparing you for the bio section of the DAT in general, but Campbell's bio is always a good reference to have for anything that is lacking in Schaum's. If I had more time, I would have definitely gone through Campbell's more thoroughly rather than skimming through it a few days before my test. Also, wikipedia is a great resource and I'm sure you can find enough plant information on the internet, it's just whether or not you want to have it right at your fingertips or whether you are willing to take the time to search for it.

Raiden,

Can you tell me what version of Schaum's you used for biology? Was it the 2nd Edition Biology Schaum's Outlines by George Fried?

Thanks and congrats on awesome scores.

Hey guys, I didn't really use much for math since I have always had somewhat of a knack for math. I did go over the Kaplan QR section and a little bit of Destroyer, but that was about it. As for Schaum's, I did indeed use the 2nd edition Biology outline by Fried.
