DAT prep courses

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if there are any type of complete prep course for the DAT, preferably in person. The only company I could find that offers in person prep is Kaplan, and from reading the forums, it seems they are not that good with teaching the DAT.

That said, I highly highly highly suggest that you avoid prep courses. I could maybe see them being useful for the MCAT or LSAT (even then that's a maybe) since those tests involve logic and critical thinking strategies and maybe a class can teach you those (not sure I've only written teh DAT). Maybe these courses are effective for those exams and that's how the companies got famous, not too sure.

Do a quick read on SDN, pick up a PDF of Ari's 10 week schedule and I recommend you self study using a personalized schedule.

I hear that crack the dat offers no expiration on their material and that this might help you as well. 🙂 🙂 I am used their bundle package when i was preparing to take my DAT for the second time and it helped me a lot! 🙂

i also thought about using a dat prep course but i didnt think it was worth the money. nothing beats a motivated student using dat destroyer and dat bootcamp. i used a loose study plan from dat bootcamp. many people i know have just self-studied and killed it. dont waste your money on a course unless you can afford ir

The DAT is pretty much a test of recall and repetition; there is little to no strategy involved. Having said that, I don't think a prep course is necessary to do well (especially with the $2000+ price tag). For less than $500, you can buy all the DAT prep material you could possibly need to get a good score. And you can use the $1500 you saved to treat yo self to some good food while you study.

Pretty much everyone that I've talked to on my interviews self studied. I've also been asked during the interviews at a couple schools how I prepared for the DAT. I think adcoms like to see someone who can discipline and motivate themselves to succeed and do well.
