DAT Prep

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do well in your Bio classes, Chem and O Chem classes. From there, studying for your dat in a couple of years will be a matter of refreshing your memory from those subjects and practice.

um, take your pre-req's the year before you take the dat?

one year, take g chem
next year, take orgo and bio.
that summer, review g chem. you already know bio and orgo. review as necessary. practice pat, rc, and qr. Then take dat.

This is really, really good advice, probably the best you will get. Take heed.

The only thing I would add here is that you should make sure to review everything before taking the test. Even if you just finished bio and orgo, you still need spend some timre reviewing these topics as there is a lot to remember. After you finish those three courses, hopefully after your sophomore year, spend that summer reviewing all topics and take a couple practice tests like with Topscore to get a feel for what the test is like and to experience the PAT section. Then take the test at the end of the summer, or whenever you feel you are ready. The sooner you take the DAT after you finish those classes the better as you will likely remember more - plus if you take the test between your soph and junior year, you will be way ahead of everyone else. For now, just worry about getting solid grades in your core sciences.

I would also like to add that the earlier you take it is better because of this:
Worst case scenario (which we all don't want to) but should you not be happy with your scores, you have time to re-take the DAT. There is a 90-day wait period, so if you wait until Aug/Sept of the application year to take it, it will most likely it will be the score you submit since trying to study and re-take the DAT among classes will be very difficult. It's not impossible, although I don't recommend it. Good luck to you!

It might help you out to get the Kaplan book and go through the material you're covering in each science class simultaneously with the class, the Kaplan does a fairly good job of making the material simple while the class you have will fill in any of the gaps, this isn't what i did but i would have made my life a lot easier for the month and a half before the dat if i had......most of all just be willing to put the time in and about 3 months before pick up some achiever and topscore see where you need some work and study what you need to
Best of Luck
