Hello...

I took my DATs a month ago and got all my apps done during that time also. I rushed into taking the exam and didn't do as good as I would've liked. Unfortunately, I found this site after I completed everything. I recently read a post on how schools have cut-offs for DAT scores, making me worry about my QR score. Seeing how well everyone on this site is scoring also discourages me greatly.

My DAT scores were: 21 bio, 19 org, 18 chem, 19 PAT, 18 RC, 15 QR... 19 TS 18 AA.

Does anyone know if this meets the standards for Temple? The idea of taking this exam again scares me. What worries me most is my QR scores. I live outside of Philadelphia and would really like to attend a dental school within the city. I figure UPenn is out of the question so I'm really aiming towards Temple. My science GPA = 3.56 and cumulative = 3.54. Do I even have a good chance of getting into Temple with these stats? Thanks for your time, as I am sure many others are under the same stress as I am.

Check out predents.com to see how well the accepted column performed in QR. Overall, I wouldn't let the scores on this site get you down - one, a portion of the top tier of people who do well want some props, and posting will get them that - two, there's a pretty high chance of people fibbing on their scores. Every now and then, you'll see a super high score get posted, and it's posted in a peculiarly similar style to the one put up a few days prior. All and all, caveat emptor, with the information you colloquially would "buy."

unfortunately i have spoke directly with temple and they said have to give them at least a 19 AA for DATs - I don't believe this personally. Maybe someone else can see but I really doubt this. there average is not even that high!

19 AA for Temple?? Can anyone back this up? Also...does QR 15 make the cutoff?

Possibly they have a 19 cut off for out of staters, and lower for in-staters... I sure hope not though 🙁

Take some initiative - If you are from the area, just make an appointment or walk into the admissions office and ask. FYI, from taking a look at predents though, someone with a 12 in QR was granted an interview.

Go to the school's website and get their requirements straight from them. Most schools provide plenty of information.

i meant Their***** in my last post lol....

anyway, yea i'm pretty sad about this 19 AA thing too but Brian Hahn told me that directly! I really hope that's not true though because I still have to take my dats and am just hoping i can get that score.

For 2005-06 their AA was 19.1 and for 2006-07 it was 18.8, so there can't be a 19 cutoff. They're probably saying they want all scores 19 or greater, but there's always exceptions.

Wow, what a low qr score... I wonder who that was, he must not be very smart.

It was me!

But my score dosent go against what is sounds like Brian told dentalgrl, you need at least a 19AA, thats what I had. Not too bad considering I had a 12 on a section.

Seems like Temple grants a lot of interviews and ends up rejecting a lot of applicants post-interview? I've heard a few of you guys who interviewed last year...and pretty early....and are still reapplying this year.....safe to assume an early interview at Temple isn't necessarily as strong as, say, some other schools?

First, Temple is half private half public...second, as far as i am aware cutoffs are new to this year so yes they are real.

First, 40/85 instate/out of state is hardly half, even I know this and I got a 12 on my QR. Second, cutoffs have been around for awhile, but there are always exceptions to rules. As the applicant pool continues to become more competitive schools will begin to adhere more strictly to their set cutoffs.

I talked to Temple and they strongly recommend 18's for each section. They said they don't have a definitive cutoff, just a strong recommendation. I have a 17 in one section and they said not to worry about it too much and that my other scores would probably balance it out.

So a 15 in QR wouldn't automatically rule you out.

I got accepted to Temple for this year, which starts in a few days, with a QR score of 15 and an AA of 19.

I did not say half instate/ half out of state i said it's a half private/half public institution... how did you do on your RC?

And yes, PA residents do have some advantage when it comes to scores

Did you have an outstanding GPA or serious shadowing? Are you an URM?

I hope none of the above because you just gave some hope to a few of us heh

:laugh::laugh: You get the point, its still not half.

Yes, I do think I've heard that Temple takes some money from the state in order to secure seats for the "in staters". This dosent make it a public school though does it?

Temple is not a PA state school. View this website for a list of PA state schools.

I find it interesting that Penn State is not on that list even those the word "state" is in its name.

Yeah, I know there not a state schol, or a public school. Thats what I was trying to tell pebbles.

Come on guys, no school is gonna let you in with all bogus stats. I was just pointing out that if you got a 15 on QR its not the end of the world. Everyone needs to have something special about their app. that makes them stand out a little. In my case all my other stats were pretty solid and I have some work experience in a dental office.

U of Pitt & Penn are better schools. You obviously have stats for them as well. I was just wondering why you're stressing about Temple???

But good luck to you anyways 🙂

Not that its possible, but how much would you be willing to pay if you could?

Well considering that I'm going into debt right now not being in dental school and when you factor in that I'll make about 80,000 grand my first year out as a dentist. I'd be willing to pay between 100,000 and 120,000 for your seat.

Think it over.

Who are you talking to? Its not me.

This is a subjective statement and cannot be verified by facts or otherwise. Each of the PA schools have their benefits.

I will be a first year at Temple Dental starting tomorrow, and I got a 15 in QR. However, my AA was a 20 and my TS was 22. My other scores balanced out the low QR (also, bear in mind that QR is the least important section). So I wouldn't be too worried about one low score (as long as it's QR).

This is from the admissions committee for the class of 2011 at Temple
They had 4202 applicants for 125 spots
Interviewed 700 applicants

Entering Class
64 PA residents
61 Non PA residents
42% Female

sGPA 3.26
Overall GPA 3.36
19.1 AA
18.5 PAT

They already had over 2000 applications for this cycle and are expecting close to 5000 by the end. Good Luck to you all, the bar is being raised, Temple is an awesome school.
