My son recently took the DAT and scored a AA 19(19 in Science)and PAT of 24. How should I interpret these scores and the possibilities of him successfully applying to Dental School? GPA is around 3.2 in Quantitative Sciences.

His PAT is a very high score, probably in the top 5% of test takers at least. Great job to him on that! However, the AA score is slightly below average for accepted dental school students (it is typically 20-21 these days). With his 3.2 GPA (which is also on the lower side) it might be a little more difficult for him to get interviews, but not impossible. Other criteria like extracurricular activities and dental experience would be needed to allow the ADCOMS to look past the slightly lower-than-average DAT score and GPA.

I agree with what you have written, I might add to call the schools too. I would also like to know the score breakdown, no way to tell from what was stated and it is possible one of the scores was below cutoffs. Must schools require higher scores in Science and reading than in the QR and PAT.

with a 3.2, you need to aim for a 22-23+. You may get an interview or two if you apply broadly, but the fact is your gpa and dat are lower than that of the avg. matriculate. (3.6oGPA + 20.2aa)
