Hello everybody,
I am a predent student and have been reading material on this website for a while now and learned A LOT from it. It is truly amazing, but I just made a profile and this is my first post.

Basically, I just took the DAT for the 1st time and here are my scores:

PA-- 16
QR-- 14
RC-- 24
Bio-- 17
GC-- 23
OC-- 16

TS-- 18
AA-- 19

Now I know it's annoying to say will I get in as everyone's application is different but I am just too worried. The think that killed me is the QR which is funny really because I thought that was the easiest section on the test when I was studying for it but the time is what got me, I ran out of time with like 15 problems left. It being at the end of the test didn't help either.

Do you guys think that I need to retake it. I already applied to :
NYU, Columbia, Nova, UF, U Detroit Mercy, Michigan, and Virginia

My BCP GPA is 3.75 and my science is 3.77 and cum is 3.65.

I would take it again but as you guys can see, it's already late and I was just checking the DAT website and they said that you have to wait 90 days, and I don't know if they actually enforce that or no, please let me know if anyone has done it in shorter period of time. The reason I waited so long is because this is a change of career for me and I already have a master's degree in business but after working 2 years I decided that I would work in the health field and of course, what better that dentistry.

Sorry to run on and on but I just wanted to explain the situation. And I guess I just want to know what my options are really.

Thanks

Your scores are quite low. If I had to guess from all my time on this board, you are at this moment a very below average applicant. Your GPA is great, but your DAT is pretty bad. The problem is that a high GPA and very low DAT raises more questions than a low GPA and high DAT. Not only is the QR very, very low, your Orgo and PAT are also below the average line. Your AA makes your score seem a lot better than it really is though. You have a shot at NYU, but I would be very surprised if you got into the other schools you listed. Might as well study and retake it in 3 months, since you're going to have to retake it eventually anyways (assuming you don't get in, which is a good possibility at this point). If you had an 18-19 in every section, but still end up with the same TS and AA (18-19), I would have said you had a great chance of getting in.

Can I at least take the test again in 2 weeks or so? Does anyone know if I try to book it again will they tell me that you have to wait 90 days?

You have to wait 3 months before taking it again. I don't think I've ever heard of any special cases where someone was allowed to take it again before the 90 day period.

No you cant take the exam in two weeks....they do enforce it really really hard!!!!!.....Look at the bright side bro....now you know that u have three month for preparation and if you do study your butt off...u are guaranteed a 20+.

ZzZzSleepyhead..GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!....just make sure u are not sleepy the day u take the exam....lol..hahahaha!!!!!

You have an amazing reading score! What passage did you have on the test? I think if you can put more time to study for science and math, you def got 20+ AA next time

How about a break down? What did you use to study? Also, I have to unfortunately agree and say you are "below average" especially for this cycle. Also, I think you have to work on your PAT score, a lot of schools really look for an 18 or better. If you didn't use CDP then I strongly suggest it. It seemed almost identical for me.

Hahahha thanks alot!! 😛, I'll try my best but I'm just one sleepy person 😴😴😴😴.

Well, I used Kaplan and Destroyer for all the sections and DAT Achiever for the tests. The problem is I really wanted to get in this cycle and retaking it in 3 months will probably just be too late. No point of stressing though, I will just leave it in God's hand.

Hey guys, sorry for reviving a dead post but I wanted to put this up as an encouragement to other applicants. Because, as much as I love SDN, it seems that whenever someone is asking for help the replies tend to put them down may be intentionally or may be not, depending on who's replying I guess, 😉. But anyway, I just wanted to put it out there that with my "mediocre" DAT grades I was able to get interview offers from 4 of the six colleges I applied to (orginally seven but I never sent the secondary application to Univ of Penn. becuase it required 4 essays) even though I applied rather late in the cycle as I stated before (took the DAT in September). The interviews were at (UF, Detroit Mercy, NYU, and Columbia). I also got accepted to two of those programs (I won't say which to keep it anonymous), without actually taking the DAT again, but it was a conditional acceptance requiring that I take the DAT again and score a minumum of 17 on each section which I did, thank God. Anyway, like I said I just like to put this as an encouragement to other applicants that there is always hope. Best of luck to everyone.

That's pretty cool. So how long did you study for the DAT the first time? Also did you get accepted to your state school and do you have a lot of extra curricular activities?

Yes. I have a lot of extracurricular activity, with my church for example, but my shadowing wasn't all that crazy may be a total of 150 hrs at the time of application. And no I did not get accepted for my state school unfortunately. But hey I am not complaining.

da-damn

bro how did you get in? they accepted you on the condition you retake the DAT?! This just doesnt compute. As competitive as the process is why would they ever do that? (Im not doubting you my friend, just wondering out loud).

What were the extenuating circumstances? Kickass EC's? Powerful essay?

Your admission gives hope to others btw, good job and grats!

Congrats, wow. Your acceptance really gives hope to other people. Thanks for the post.

You won't raise your score in any significant amount by studying 2 weeks. after that score. Also don't be discouraged. Up on your bio and ochem, math. Your Gchem and RC looks good. Be patient, the 90 day wait is for good reasons. Use it to study and learn material you're weak in. Maybe buy some practice exams to help you gauge your level of master before you retake the exam. You don't want to have all 3 real exams with the same score...that would look very very bad. Practice, practice, practice! until you dream rxns!

this man is everyones encouragement including my own your story makes me believe anything is possible i pray for myself and everyone else! hahaha amazing post im glad it all worked out for you man
