DAT score?

Hello, I have a GPA of 3.6 overall and 3.55 science what would be a "good" DAT score for me to be accepted?

the higher the better. 19 are the averages but that's too low for certain schools. You should focus on doing the best you can. You can't really set a range or control the outcome so study hard and hopefully that will be enough.

I have around exactly the same GPA's as you do and I got a 19AA and I recieved 6 interviews and 3 acceptances

In all honesty, it depends on how competitive you are with the rest of your application, when you apply, and how well your interviews go.

To get accepted, assuming you apply EARLY:

DAT 18 - hope for a couple interviews, and you really need to nail them to have a shot

DAT 19 - might get 3-5 interviews depending on where you apply, interview well and you could get one or more acceptances

DAT 20 - Could get you maybe 4-6 interviews, put your best foot forward during interview time, and you should end up with a few choices for dental school

DAT 21 - (see DAT 20, only breathe a little easier during interviews)

DAT 22+ - don't give them an excuse to reject you during the interview, a la Mr Stoneface, Mr Awkwardsilence, Mrs Jitterbug, Miss Cantmakeeyecontact, or Mister Blabswhatevercomesintohisheadwithoutthinking and your Christmas will come early this year (Dec. 1st)

I like this.

Rainman has a good point. It's not all about numbers.

I think people underestimate how important your personal statement is!!! I didnt have the greatest statistics... I have friends who scored 2 or 3 points higher than me on the DAT and I was the one who recieved more interviews and acceptances. At all of my interviews the people who were interviewing me made a comment about my personal statement and how they liked it and that it is what drew them to my application...It honestly is not only about numbers...

AGREED.

The personal statement is what makes you unique from other applicants who have the same kind of numbers as you. EC's and LOR's can only take you so far. But the personal statement holds so much potential for the applicant.

At least 19 on every section,20 to be on the green zone

Does any one have any samples for the personal statements? I will have to start writing mine soon and thought it would be a good idea to see some other letters to know the best way to format, and what areas to cover on it. Of course, you can't really copy one because everyone is a different person and has done different things.

I did this a while ago, but I googled something like "dental school personal statement samples". One of the sites google led me to had a variety of formats and topic and all of the samples were well written and interesting. Good source for inspiration if you're encountering sever writer's block.

PS is marginally important when compared to GPA, DAT, LOR and Interviews. This is evidenced by the ADEA Survey. I can provide the link if necessary.

Depends on the school that you attend.

I'd say 21+ to get into good schools but 19~20 will get you somewhere.

Fact.

But that's not exactly the point, I don't think.

The point is that in a sea of high GPAs and DAT scores-- one way to help yourself stand out is an excellent PS. People often forget that.

PS is not more important than LORs and Interviews. I believe LORs are in the same file as PS statements 🙂

Precisely. 👍

rp37/avicci/dds25/wired...who are you arguing with? He didn't say they are more important than LORs and interviews.
