Hey everyone,

Well, I finally found the strength to post my scores. I was extremely disappointed and still am, but I have just lost the energy to stay mad. So instead of keeping my scores to myself I decided to share them because I know many people really like to compare with other students (I know I did)

Actual DAT scores:
AA:19 TS:19 PAT:18 BIO:19 ORGO:19 GC:19 QR:15 RC:21

The very first thing I thought was "this is definently a mistake!" I mean, I went into this test thinking I was prepared and actually finished the NAT SCI section feeling fairly confident... I could feel that this was going to be the highest scores I ever got. I just knew that I did well. I seriously cannot understand why I didn't score above 20 in those sections.

The perceptual seemed to be sooooo easy. I thought I did very well. I was so happy and excited to see my scores (I honestly cannot understand how I could have done so poorly) I thought each PAT section seemed easier than any of the practice tests. The reading comprehension was ok. I thought I got all the questions right... obviously not. Math was very similar to KAPLAN's subject tests. There were aproximately 7 trig questions (I answered probably 2 correctly) But I went back through the questions and counted at LEAST 20 correct, and didnt count questions I was a little unsure of (so I should have scored like 17 or higher). I worked on my math the most and had made the most improvements on it... so that is definently the score that REALLY had me thinking there was some kind of conspiracy! lol

I threw out my score sheet I was keeping for all the practice tests the night after my exam so I can't give you a full break down of TopScore, Achiever, and the Kaplan test but I will try my best to remember.

My TopScore cd expired a month ago so I couldnt access the cd to get my scores. I know I was scoring between 16-19 in the sciences. I think I got a 22 in Bio on one of them. My QR was always 17 and reading was either a 22 or a 23. pat was 21+ on all three.

My Achiever scores:
AA TS PAT BIO GC OC QR RC
1- 18 17 18 17 17 16 17 23
2- 17 16 18 17 14 16 16 20
3- 19 17 18 16 17 19 19 22

The Kaplan online exam was where I scored the lowest. The sciences were 15-16, math was 15, and I dont remember the pat or rc score.

Sorry I can't give you a better break down.

All in all, I worked way too hard to get such lousy scores. These scores are probably not that bad for a first time test taker, but thats not me. So, the reality is... these scores probably wont cut it. But oh well, I have to move on! 😳

If anyone wants to know my study schedule let me know. With these scores you probably dont want to take my advice. I am willing to share any advice or help, nontheless. Good luck to all!

Oh, and in case some of you were wondering, I did not see ANY questions similar to those in Achiever or any other test.

Hey Fariba, how are you feeling now? Once again, I still think you'll be fine with your applications, & don't be so hard on yourself, you worked really hard. I just got my butt kicked on Achiever 2 tonight, my scores were pretty similar to yours. Lifeisgood & some other friends are mine are really getting me curious about the DAT destroyer, but at this stage of the game the best review I'll get from destroyer is the website sample questions. It'll be too much. Anyway, feel better girl

Oh, & if you still have access to your online kaplan account, you would be a lifesaver, my account expired last week & I can't access it, if not its allright.

👍
I personally think you're scores are very good with the only exception of QR of course...overall I think you did great, so feel proud that you did the best you could. 😉 That's what counts the most 😳

Make sure you apply to those public state schools. I had just about the same with a higher QR and lower PAT and I got a couple of interviews. Good luck.

i dont c any reasons for usc to reject u, assumming u havve a fair gpa from a fair university

to Fariba:

Thank you for sharing your scores with us. Just wondering if you still remember any test questions that you felt unsure or hard?

Thanks.🙂

I pretty much have the same exact scores as you except my RC was lower (19). good luck on our app process.

i thought a 19 was a bad score too when i got my results back...but it's really not. the way i see it ...if i wanted to take it again i'd get a 20+ for sure because I know how the questions are asked and how to study. A 19 is actually a good enoguh score to be accepted to a good number of schools.

how are the questions asked and how should I study?:meanie: first time taking the DAT end of this month...

Thanks so much to all who responded to this post. I appreciate your encouraging words and thank you for taking the time to write me. (I wasn't fishing for compliments or words of encouragment, but I am thankful for all your kind words, anyway.)

I am definently feeling much better and am keeping my head up. I love dentistry too much to let a few scores keep me away from my dream.

About sharing questions from the exam with you all... I just dont feel right about doing that over SDN. In person, I would feel differently... but over SDN just feels a little bit illegal to me (I am kind of a spaz, I know)

What I can say... is that there are some very straightforward questions (ones that even if you just reviewed the chapters in Kaplan, you would answer correctly)... and then there are some that you just are like "wha-what?!?!" - Sorry thats not very helpful info, but I just dont want to jeopardize my future (Again, I'm a spaz)

I want to wish everyone lots of luck on the DAT and in the application process! You guys are awesome and deserve the best! :luck:

hi fariba,
i'm sorry you are not happy with your scores. you deserve better. you've been very active on sdn and it has been quite obvious that you know your material, but sometimes things work out strangly. keep your hopes up though. a 19/19/18 is not bad. how is your gpa, if you don't mind me asking?
i received the same score as you before i retook the dat. if you honestly cannot live with your scores, retake the dat. i know how draining it is, but you WILL improve. the second time i took the dat, i did SO much better. I think half the reason was b/c i wasn't as nervous.
anyway, don't beat yourself up over this. it isn't worth it. probably this time next year you will be a dental student somewhere...so no worries.
