DAT vs. MCAT?

I was wondering if anyone particularly interested in the TUSPM and/or NYCPM only selected to study and take the DAT, instead of the MCAT...

From what I've read the DAT is maybe a little easier than the MCAT. But I am not sure if TUSPM and NYCPM "prefer" to take the MCAT.

If anyone has any insight on this can you please respond to this - I am just wondering because in this case you may be able to dodge the MCAT beast.

Take the MCAT. You'll probably get questioned about dental school if you take the DAT.

Give yourself more options (of applying to all 9 schools), and take the MCAT.

Okay, maybe to clarify a bit: you want to take the DAT because it's easier, right? Well, if I'm not mistaken the average accepted DAT is pretty close to the dental school average, whereas the pod school MCAT is 10 points lower than the MD average. So while it may or may not be true the DAT is "simpler," the fact remains that you really only need an 22 to be pod school average...

I've taken a few practice tests and I have been prepping for a few months now. It's def not a walk in the park, but it's not terrible. You can do it, it will all pay off in the end. 👍

Definitely take the MCAT - it will broaden your career options, in case you don't get accepted to podiatry school and/or you decide to pursue another healthcare-related career (DO, MD, PA, etc.)

remember the DAT has different content than the MCAT. There is no physics. there is a math section as well as perceptual ability. So it is kind of pointless to compare them b/c they are actually very different. It's no surprise that most schools don't* accept the DAT b/c it is really hard to compare applicants to one another

For me, I got A's in undergrad physics and suck at math, so I wouldn't want to take the DAT b/c it doesn't play to my strengths

*I have heard more schools will make an exception for the DAT than advertise. not sure if that is true
