Anyone recommend taking the DAT with just ORGO 1 or wait until ORGO 2 is done? might of been asked already but I couldn't find anything in the forums..

also another random question to add to this....

LORs: does it have to be from a general dentist?? are specialists not okay?

Look at some DAT study guides for organic chem to see if there are any gaps in your knowledge or if you run into anything that you have never seen before. I would lean towards doing orgo 2 or if possible, maybe study that on your own.

Letters of rec can be from any dentist. General dentists are common because they are the most common. That being said, you'll probably get a pretty good well rounded experience from a general vs specialists. But i doubt it matters when it comes to your application.

Take orgo 2 and most prefer LOR from a general dentist.

What's the rush? Is the ADA going to take a long sabbatical from the DAT administration?

It's definitely possible. I took the DAT after orgo 1 and OC ended up being my best section. That said, it was a lot of extra work and distracted me from studying for the other parts of the test. If it will allow you to apply earlier, then do it. If you would be doing it for some other reason of convenience, then just wait.

The way that I studied was looking at the official materials to see what subjects were being asked about and learning the mechanical action of solving those kinds of problems. I mostly learned the what and left a lot of the why for later. Organic Chemistry as a Second Language vol 2 was a big help.

You can always take the DAT without taking Ochem II, but understand you don’t know if you’ll get an easier version of the DAT or a hard version. The first time I took it, I had mostly Ochem I. The second time it was mostly Ochem II. I personally would wait until after taking Ochem II.

Same story for me, it's possible but you will hate yourself for a bit.

I was in the exact same situation. I ended up taking the DAT without taking ORGO 2 first. Obviously it would've made things easier to study if I had taken ORGO 2, but I didn't want to wait that long. So I studied for ORGO 2 myself, and it honestly wasn't that hard. Just use Chad's videos and Youtube.

It is very possible. I reviewed Chad's videos organic chemistry section for two weeks and that was enough.
