1. So...what do people use?
2. Pro's / Con's of your setup?
3. Any experience having to interface with an EPIC-based EMR system?

I believe EPIC uses a MUMPS setup (ugh)....and I'm wondering if I'm completely stuck using a hierarchal setup, or if I can convert to a relational database. Has anyone tried this? I know depending on how complex the hierarchal setup, I may be asking for a world of hurt, but it is just a completely different way to view and work with the data.

My brother used to work for them as as a software developer. I can field questions his way if you'd like.

Edit: He said "Sort of. It has data extractable to a relational database but not real time."

Thanks!

I don't think I'll need real time, but I'll be pulling data down periodically to crunch the numbers for a few different projects. I'm concerned going from a hierarchical database to a relational one, as a small glitch can really jack stuff up. EPIC offers some pretty robust software options, but their software is known to "not play well with others." It'll be an adventure I guess.
