this seems more like a join sunila's course thread and not about test prep or anything.....i didnt trust the course i inquired but did not join....i dont know if nitu is true or not ....all i know is one month might be enough for a course but to give a test i dont think so....u know why .....coz i have been studying for it...or i might just be the dumbest of dumb coz as nitu puts it she just studied for one and half month WITHOUT MUCH EFFORT.....gosh i really need to eat those almonds now...lol

Agreed. It's much harder than it looks to take the DAT. One month just isn't enough. I tried but it just didn't work out. I've taken the DAT 6 years back and I studied 4 months for it. Scored a 22TS and 21 AA. I wish I could use the same DAT scores but unfortunately, they're not valid anymore. With everyone talking about the Sunila's course it seems to be a marketing thing. I did inquire myself about the course personally with her, but it didn't seem to be trustworthy. After going through the material and struggling to get a grip and study, I've decided to let it go. I've got an interview and I plan to focus on it. Hope I'm making the right decision. :idea:
 
FOR THOSE WHO WANT DAT

Guys its less time and reading book is a lot of effort .....try retro study .....thats what i did majorly ......do questions and and keep their concept in mind
At this stage retro study can be helpful
and i would like to encourage those who are serious ....it is possible .....just dont hear discouraging words not even from those coming from ur heart ......it is stressful but still it is possible

Ok thanks for all the encouragemant and the discouragement too...NO EXAM IS EASY!! And DAT is not a joke too....But its not rocket science...Iam determined to study for DAT and I dont know how i wil fare...But life is once...U try ur hardest and to try and fail is better than to not try at all....

Lets make this thread a valuable one...Thanks nitu, bread 80 and hallucinations for the kind words...And thanks dentovis and this is my time for skepticism....Now those who want to study lets get down to it and do it....Lets destroy the DAT!!
 
Hey guys! I'm not an international student but came across this thread. I would just like to share how I studied for the DAT and was able to get into NYU. For the science sections, I read the Kaplan book. For the PAT and math sections, I used only CRACK DAT. CRACK DAT really helped me on the PAT portion. When I first took the DAT, I got a 17 on the PAT section and after using Crack DAT for a couple of months, I got a 23 on the PAT section.

For reading, I just practiced reading general science articles fast and then try to summarize each paragraph in my head.

So I just used the Kaplan book for the sciences and the Crack DAT for PAT and math.

I didn't take any course or pay for anything more than this. Wish you all the best of luck!!

I didn't say not to take the DAT. Why are you attacking me? Go ahead and take the DAT, I just don't think that a month will suffice. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I did not provide any skepticism. You can feel free to take the DAT. I was just letting people know my struggles on it. I didn't know I couldn't express my opinion? I was agreeing with typhodont ( see post above), I was saying that it's hard. Please stop the hate. YOLO.🙂

The only person my post should be discouraging to should be ms sunila.....jk....nope I don't mean to decide for anybody if they can or cannot do it in the time frame...I was just talking from my perspective....however I like the idea of retro study suggested by neetu....for me what is more discouraging is that this thread has no one discussing preparation strategies.....other than the course....🙂
 
I want to prepare for it as well...have the kaplan blue book...i am not in the states ...so will even have to fly down just for the DAT...dunno whether it will even be worth...but lets see..will see of i can study for 3-4 days ..then decide..

Yes, it's a software I purchased. I went to their website and purchased the entire set. But I personally didn't find the entire set helpful. I didn't use the software for science and the reading portion. I only used the Math and PAT portions. If you do decide to purchase the software, you don't have to purchase the entire set.

For Science, I only used the kaplan book. In fact, I was able to get a 22 on Organic Chem using just this book. You don't have to buy the latest version of the book. You can go online and buy a much cheaper older version. They don't change much from year to year. The Kaplan book that I used, I think I bought it for like $16 on ebay.

3 to 4 weeks atleast that was told to me when i called they said it usually takes around 2 weeks but it can take a maximum of 4 weeks....
r u planning on giving the exam ?

OMG, really? I did so bad in this DAT exam and was considering going back to my country to be a dentist and then come back here nyc to do 3years.wth!! I am totally losing hope now 🙁

Then you need to give the exam by end of october at the latest to be on the safe side so that your application can reach on time before the deadline of december 1st. I am planning to give in october last week too....how are you doing with the preparation???....best of luck!!

Guys you know what one report can be sent directly from the centre online to the school of our choice would'nt that be great NO WAITING!!!!

Will NYU accept that or will it not??

All U.S. dental schools require official DAT scores for each examinee. Official scores are reported electronically to the dental schools you select on your DAT application. When you select dental schools to receive your official scores, you grant the Department of Testing Services permission to release your official scores to the dental schools you selected on your DAT application.

Hi. I am also preparing for DAT. It takes 3 to 4 weeks for ADA to send the official scores to the dental schools. The score report we get on the day of the test is provisional, which is only for the examinee. So plan your day for DAT such that your scores reach NYU before Dec 1.

when are you planning to give the exam and how is your preparation coming along?
 
I am giving exam in second week of October. But I am not prepared for it. I am afraid to reschedule it because the official score report might not reach nyu before the deadline. So, taking a chance. I am preparing for gen chem, org chem , maths and little bit of biology. I am studying from KBB. Will do PAT for couple of days only.
 
its hard....i have been studying for some time.....but i still feel i am not prepared at all.....i havnt touched the pat yet as well and i am really worried about that...i am doing kbb...cliff and chads videos......i found chad videos to be helpful but it takes time coz i dont understand a lot of stuff and i have to go back again and again
 
Students who apply for 4 yr programs usually study at least for two months. But for us it's different. We don't have enough time now. And we studied all these subjects years ago. And all these rejections make me feel low. One of the reason I can't concentrate on my prep. I know many of us feel the same... This is the time we all have to be strong. I hope god bless us all and pays for our hardwork.

exactly its very hard to start something with all these rejections...and with some colleges still left it becomes even more difficult...cause i keep thinking about them..

BUT,do the questions and then get to the concepts....That's how we roll....

DON'T DESPAIR....10 hours of study a month we can pull this off....

Buy the blue Kaplan Book its enuf.....do that,thats like decks for DAT.

Actually the best thing to study from is the blue Kaplan book and Dat Destroyer. These two will help you get great marks ( or so a friend who took the DAT recently said, he scored a 25) Just saying. Don't get confused by reading too many books.
