Disclaimer: this is coming from a third party who does not attend KCOM, but hears enough hilarious information from a friend who is a student that she feels the need to comment!

Okay, it has to be said. I've visited KCOM and hung out with some very cool people in the medical program there. I, myself, am in a medical school program in San Francisco and I wish my classmates were this interesting! Obviously, dating at KCOM can be somewhat of a dilemma. Townies or school mates; neither are usually good options. The town is small to say the least with diversity being at an all time low. The school and program are fantastic, but a single person is almost bound to be lonely here. That is when you begin to live vicariously through your friends/classmates who have jumped into that scary unknown of dating a local or even worse, dating the one person everyone says not to date, a person in your class. That is when the real gossip begins. It's funny, painful and always bound to happen. Who can stop it, though. It's like you have to go there. So, let's go.

My real experience was at a recent KCOM dance held in December. It was awesome!! I felt like I had just walked onto the set of Sixteen Candles where they hold the dance in the high school gym. No kidding! I'm thrown in the mix at dinner which is sort of a random array of interesting items that I can't even name. Afterwards, it was pictures and dancing to every kind of music under the sun (namely rap and def leppard). During this entire time, there was gossip of every sort. A guy from wyoming dating a Louisiana girl, a raging party girl from florida semi dating her long-time boyfriend who never calls her and mostly dating an embarrassed classmate from michigan. Poor boy from arizona found a girl from michigan that he has no idea about. Her cheating ways, the poor guy she screwed around on before him and her kiss and tell attitude about him and everyone else in her life has everyone talking and pointing fingers apparently to their unknowing glance! A boy and girl both from michigan messing around behind her boyfriend's back, a girl from indiana playing hard to get with every guy in class, some girl trying to steal another classmate's husband and the list goes on and on!! I came out of there and could write an entire US Weekly magazine. It was fantastic! My head has been buried so far in medical books that I forgot how funny and silly the gossip can really be! Why can't my school be more interesting. yeah, KCOM! You guys have it going on! 😀

Being a single second year at KCOM, I can comment on the situation since I have been around for a bit. I think we have a great variety here although there are a large amount of students who are already married or taken. The singles who usually hang out together are a small niche group so gossip tends to travel fairly fast just like any other small town school. I do have to agree on the poor dudes from arizona and michigan! What an embarrassment. Regardless of the intellect, moral depth would be more on my radar. I don't think either one of these girls these guys are with could be considered in good standing. There are always some at every med school. I guess these are our few. 😕

What the heck. Who told the outsider all the juice? And how come I wasn't told.

I was at KCOM two weeks ago, nobody bothered to let me in on these juicy stories. By the way I love the school.
Matt, you are my homeboy.

Come on! This gossip has been swirling around the second year class for months. Gotta put the ear to the ground. Nah, I just got lucky one day and overheard some funny things going down the hallway. After you hear that stuff, then you HAVE to ask about it. That is when you get the real scoop. I am convinced that everyone knows, but doesn't tell until you ask about it specifically. Or you end up asking the wrong person who doesn't know anything and then they run off and tell their friends about what you asked. Then the rumors start. I'm sure whoever said all of this stuff has an exaggerated version of what is really going on. It is a pretty interesting read/study break when you're studied out of your mind from all this board exam stuff.

The great comedy of it all is that everyone follows it up with "but don't tell anyone". That line, of course, entitles you to tell one person or a small group as long as you finish it with the same. People always said medical school is a lot like high school. It really is. Good times!

Boards? What boards? 😉

Yeah, I agree. You guys have a pretty knowledgeable second year group! I think the 2nd years don't get enough credit. They know a lot more than people realize. They already went through being a first year so they have their gossip and the inside story on the first year class, too. Who knew! It was fun to listen in on, though. This, I have to say, is a fun group at a great medical school. KCOM is pretty much the most respected DO program out there and you guys have a well-rounded gossip ring going that rivals even the big schools. 👍
My group of friends and I all graduated from the same university and then got accepted to different med schools with some going a year sooner than others. One of them got accepted to Touro-Mare Island a year after I got into school and now she is trying to transfer out East to be closer to her fiance at Georgetown. I say forget east coast! They are all a bunch of snobs anyways. My vote is for KCOM and then her fiance can come out to be closer to her after school is done. Then I have more friends to visit out at KCOM and the gossip is sure to be even better!!
