Vaccination is associated with which type of immunity?

  • A. [Correct]
    Artificially active immunity.

  • B.
    Artificially passive immunity.

  • C.
    Natural passive immunity.

  • D.
    Natural active immunity.

  • E.
    None of the above.

Explanation In addition to that information, immunity is considered artificial when conferred with conscious intent, such as a vaccine. Natural immunity is the opposite of artificial immunity. An example of natural active immunity is the response in a developing fetus due to presence of maternal IgG antibodies.

I understand the explanation for the question, but read the last sentence...isn't it natural passive immunity? This is a transferring of antibodies...so it's passive?

Naturally acquired passive immunity

Maternal passive immunity is a type of naturally acquired passive immunity, and refers to antibody-mediated immunity conveyed to a fetus by its mother during pregnancy. Maternal antibodies (MatAb) are passed through the placenta to the fetus by an FcRn receptor on placental cells. This occurs around the third month of gestation.[9] IgG is the only antibody isotype that can pass through the placenta.[9] Passive immunity is also provided through the transfer of IgA antibodies found in breast milk that are transferred to the gut of the infant, protecting against bacterial infections, until the newborn can synthesize its own antibodies.[8]

^From wiki.

I thought vaccination was active? I think active immunity is any type of man-made immunity; vaccines, gamma injections for vacations, etc etc. Could be wrong?

They are...artificially (artificially=consented).

But I'm talking about the last sentence in the explanation, it should be natural passive immunity right?

yup its right. Vaccination is when you are injected with weakened or dead disease causing cells, which produces antibodies along with memory cells. If you are infected with that virus in the future it would be a faster prevention since you already have the antibodies.

Active = you make your own antibodies no matter what
Passive = you are injected with antibodies from some source:meanie:

OH, right, I could have sworn maternal antibodies were passive immunity! I see the error.

Ahh... I see what your question was.. They are wrong it should have been passive immunity since you are getting the antibodies from placenta...

Maternal antibodies IgG which can cross the placenta and IgA(through breast milk) is passive immunity.

an obvious example of Natural Active Immunity, is catching the flu.

Awesome that's what I thought. I encountered another problem that's contradicting what I learned from Cliffs.

Question from Cliffs (Molecular Genetics Chapter Quiz:
The genetic instructions for forming a polypeptide chain are carried to the ribosome by the
A. tRNA
B. rRNA
C. mRNA
D. ATP
E. DNA
Answer is C, mRNA. I'm confused...is it merely the wording on this question? I know what both mRNA and tRNA do...I wasn't sure if it was the wording on this question.

Question from DAT Q Vault:
Amino acids are transported to ribosomes for incorporation into a growing polypeptide chain by a

  • A. [Yours]
    mRNA.

  • B.
    rRNA.

  • C. [Correct]
    tRNA.

  • D.
    sRNA.

those are not contradictory.

the way I look at it is this.

mRNA is nothing more than an order form with item numbers corresponding to some product(s).

tRNA is the employee that fulfills your order. they are the one that brings the product to you (you are super rich you demand personal courier service no ups/fedex/usps)

hopefully my analogy will clear it up for you on which each question is asking.
