Davis Final Decisions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hands down you win...

Do you guys think that for those who have not reached a final decision, do you think that means they can't make a unanimous decision on us whether to reject, waitlist or accept?

Does this mean we are on the cusp of something? (Reject/Waitlist, Waitlist/Accept)?

I don't know the cause for the delay on some of this, but according to the office, there are no more acceptances to give. The class is full. At this point, the best case scenario is to be put on the waitlist.

After that, if you get placed on the top tier of the waitlist and the waitlist god's smile on you, you have a shot of it turning into an acceptance. It's gotta happen to somebody...

I wish they would expand their class like some other schools =)
When I say expand, I mean like a class of 150+ like UCLA/UCSF etc

😀

Fell down a rabbit hole. I got a call from Terri today with an acceptance from Davis.

ihateverbal and cnpremo- all hope is apparently not lost....

wow! congratulations! (not gonna lie, i'm very jealous)

notdeadyet..i pvted you since originally you and i were the only few people who have heard no decision.

i found some news about my status but I've never heard of anything like this before...let me know what you think

Wow, Ihateverbal, I hate to be nosy, but I don't think you could have piqued my curiosity more if you had said, "I have a super-secret secret... but I can't tell any of you! Ha Ha Ha!"

Want to shed any light on your situation, one Davis applicant to another?

it's basically still a no-decision but it sounded somewhat promising? Maybe promising isnt the word because it sounds too positive but it was definitely not negative. When does this wait end?

I'm trying not to leave it out in the forums...I posted something once and my student interviewer of another school I interviewed at read what I wrote and changed his evaluation of me even though I did not say anything negative.

I've learned my lesson and since then, I try to keep everything general when its public.

Thanks for all the good wishes, all. I hope that everyone's wait is not to last much longer and ends in good news...

So I wonder if its true there are no more acceptances to be given or if you were given an acceptance because someone just declined their position

Either a) they bent the truth in saying that the class is full, or b) people are bailing for other schools.

Either way, it's unlikely that our beloved NDY nabbed the only open seat, no?

I hope more people get into other schools they would rather go to, so all of us can have a spot =)

Wishful thinking never hurts, does it?

Wow, congratulations! I guess you will have to unpack the moving van headed for Vermont. As I recall you are from SF so it will be a short trip to Sacramento. Davis is great so that is wonderful news for you. Good Karma.

congrats! I'm looking forward to meeting you at the alumni reception and/or orientation at the end of July! Enjoy your break until then! For the rest of you, don't give up hope.. spots are opening up and people are coming off that waitlist!

Sorry I don't know more about the admissions process!

If anyone has any other questions about Davis or Sacramento's hot spots, don't hesitate.. I'll be around.

=o)

Yeah, my move went from 19 days of no stuff other than what I can fit into two suitcases at a cost of $4,700 to a same day move at a cost of $200, a few cases of beer, and a bunch of cashed in favors.

I've called the office several times since Thursday, and no one has picked up nor has returned my message. Has anyone heard anything regarding the alternate list? Any movement? Has it been ranked/prioritized yet if at all?

i give up. seriously.

if nothing my friday, i'm withdrawing and extending my stay in china.

i really had high hopes for davis but ah...

Their goal is have the list ranked by 7/6. I wouldn't call again until then.

Wow! Just got a call from Terri that I got in. Also wasn't expecting it at all! Just wanted to let you know that there is still movement. I was waitlisted last Friday.

Don't do it... you're at the end of the marathon. Drink some red bull.

Or something.

Agreed. There's no upside to withdrawing unless you are absolutely sure that you aren't willing to go.

My approach was to be excited/happy about the school I was going to be attending and ignore Davis as much as I could (which admittedly wasn't much). Make actual plans and treat Davis as a very pleasant suprise if it happens. I found it made it easier to wait that way.

Big congrats, pchela. Hope this gives lots of hope to folks waiting...

Strange. So they have yet to rank the alternates, but there is already movement off the alternates list? They must already have some sort of ranking by now. If not, are they just throwing darts at a wall of names and pictures?

as far as I can see, the people who have been accepted recently were the people who heard NOTHING until last Friday. This makes me think they are under different circumstances than the rest of us who were waitlisted the week before. ie. They offered larger sums of money, other favors were recepted more pleasureably, or they were just better applicants (no offense, congrats to those accepted) and they were holding their applications separatley to offer them spots as soon as available sicne the class was supposedly full.

maybe??

it could be darts.

well i don't want to withdraw either. but the problem is my flight schedule. i'm currently in china, and i booked an end of july flight back to the states just in case that i get into davis. the school i'm holding a place at doesn't start till end of aug, so if i go there i don't need to fly back till beginning of aug. i called the airline yesterday and they said that if i still want to change my flight to aug (and i do much rather spend a couple more weeks in china than sit at home and do nothing), i should do it by end of this week cause all the seats are pretty much filling up.

so....

I feel you, I do. I'm a big time traveler and I know that every day in a bug-infested hostel is curiously priceless. But don't let your weariness of the davis antics persuade you that those extra weeks are as significant as where you are spending the next years.

Staying abroad closes the door on Davis, and part of me would love to close the door on them. But if you really felt like Davis was a good place for you, I hope you can wait until next week to change your flight. It really sounds like they are ready to show their hand.

Congratulations to pchela!

I still haven't heard of a decision yet..... booo.....

No idea what this means

Sigh....

Congrats to all those that got off the waitlist. From one waitlister two years ago to another, we rock! If anyone has questions about the school, I'll be happy to share some wisdom with yah. I just started my first rotation, but it's pretty light so I have some free time. You will all love the new building and never have to encounter the wreck that was Tupper Hall (though I love Davis the city very much!).

For those still waiting, I will send positive energy towards you. Remember, it never hurts to write an update letter or a LOI if you really love Davis. Sorta worked out for me.

So does no news at this point mean good or bad news at this late stage? Any thoughts?

what happened to the "a ranked waitlist by 7/6" thing? or did i just not get an email cause they hate me so much?

as for an update letter. can i send an email instead since i'm so far away? who should i email it to?

i decided to keep waiting. i am changing my flight to the later date for now. but if, by some wonderful miracle, davis accepts me, i'll change my flight back, just gonna cost me a bit more but eh worth it right?

so... no word on those rankings yet, huh? i think I have mentally thrown in the towel at this point.

I e-mailed Terri last Friday and she e-mailed me back my ranking soon after. Maybe try this or call.

How are the rankings divided? Will she tell you where you are on the top 1/3?

As in, the top of the top third, middle of the top third? etc

Does anyone know in the past, how the waitlist movement is in July.

Kbear12, I know what you mean. No word for me either. I have emailed her and called repeatedly (and never get anyone to answer).

I'm not sure how the rankings work exactly. All I know is that I'm not in the top tier, so I didn't bother asking where I was in my group. It's pretty much over for UCD for me. sucky.

Well I just got my ranking (though it was a very undetailed description) and I am in the bottom half of the list. Such is life, midwest here I come!

yep, I'm also on the bottom half. I don't even think I was reviewed again after being put on hold in January. I'll be in New England unless UCLA or Stanford come through (laughing.... very unlikely).

until someone proves otherwise I am going to believe there is no top half.

It's possible.... she took about half a second to tell me I was in the bottom half. But it doesn't change the fact that I won't be coming off the waitlist and I'm pretty glad this Davis thing is finally over. I've been waiting since October for a final decision and I am more than a little bitter about their miserable admissions process. For the sake of future applicants, I really hope there are some major improvements to come.

Shout outs to my buddies on this thread from way back when... you know who you all are. Best of luck where you end up!

oh my god...thats alot of people on the bottom half..i thought they said they were going to tier it into 1/3s

As in top 1/3, middle 1/3, bottom 1/3

I "STILL" have not even had a decision.

Bottom half as well, and no acceptance yet from any school. Argh...

It seems like all of us early interviews that didn't hear before are auto-bottom half. Who feels strung along like I do? Anyone?

I feel you. Just submitted 2008 AMCAS last week🙁, but still hoping for a miracle. (Not gonna be from Davis though)

Oh yes. I mentioned it earlier, but I really don't think my app was looked at after January.

Yeah it generally seems to be the consensus that those who were put on hold early on were most likely not reviewed again, or put at the bottom....weird....
