So I'm a third year on my ob rotation. While in the OR today watching my third C-Section, I was daydreaming about psych. I kept thinking, If I was in psych, I wouldn't have to be worried about cutting people open, and retracting, and separating this layer out, and let's watch out for that bladder, and sawing this layer first, then the next, then checking for any bleeding sites, then dabbing the blood, then cauterizing (which is actually the only part I find interesting), then approximating, etc, etc.
I thought I loved Ob-Gyn, but know I realize that I just loved the GYN part and the prenatal care and could care less for the surgeries. I keept thinking about all the cool cases I'm gonna be seeing next rotation in psych and I can't wait. 🙂
So OB is now OUT!!! Now it's between psych and ER. I can't wait till November.
And Oh yeah, those ob residents are VERY UNHAPPY PEOPLE. I wonder why.😕

Your thread is exactly what happened to me. I started out loving obgyn-was even offered a spot to sign out of the match. But after doing psych- I know there is nothing else that I would rather do than psych. The only difference is I already did ED and I thought it is really an overated residency with very little patient contact(most of the residents and attendings clock in and cant wait till 12 hours are up so they can have there "lifestyly"). Very little time is spent with the patient. THere is no other field like psych that truly gives you patient doctor contact.
