ughhhh. Does anybody else have days where you absolutely have no motivation to do anything? I didn't have work today and I spent all day doing nothing. I didn't go to the gym, and I didn't study. Is this normal to have days where you absolutely don't do anything?

Or do you guys all have have 100% efficient days every day of the week? My work/gym/study routine goes through the weekends but every once in a while I just crash for a day. Is it normal?

No you have a serious problem and need to seek medical help immediately.

Just kidding. I mean, if that only happens once in a while, its totally fine. Sometimes you need to just relax and get out of the daily routine. Just don't do it too often and become unproductive.

I have unproductive days all the time. If you're 100% on all the time, you'll eventually get burned out. Sometimes you just need days to get away from school and do something else, even if it's just watching several episodes of your favorite show. Just keep in mind that if you find yourself being unmotivated the majority of the time, that could be an indicator of a more serious problem.

+1

Finding a balance is the key I think. I've been having some pretty "unproductive" days since I got in to med school 😛. BUT I think of them as days to myself, and I try not to let it turn into a whole series of weeks where I'm just on a couch though.

Does anyone else feel guilty for having free time? I feel guilty if I'm either not volunteering/studying/doing homework. Applying to medical school has really screwed my head up

Yea that's it, I feel guilty. It's not like I'm enjoying myself on days off watching tv. In fact I have a designer couch that's not made for comfort at all, it's only there for looks so its not even an option to sit on the couch all day. I can't let myself relax yet I don't have the motivation to do any work. So I'm in this uncomfortable state where I can't relax yet I can't do anything productive.

It only happens occasionally though.

Ya, like being a senior.

I'm trying to tell myself after working really hard all these years, I deserve to soak up all this free time before med school 😛

Lol, you're doing it wrong.

👍

But yeah OP, as long as things are running in life, there's nothing wrong with just giving yourself time to relax. There are days where I don't do anything but Reddit, SDN, and play video games and while I do feel guilty, I think I would shrivel up and die without them. I think it's part of my introvert personality, some days I just want to keep to myself and not have anyone or anything bother me.

As long as its every once in a while, it's definitely normal and nothing to worry about. The only time high levels of unproductiveness are a sign of a more serious issue (such as depression) is when you are unproductive at the cost of school/work/etc

Live it up. Those days are winding down. Once you start residency and have kids, you will almost never have another day like that.

👍 Living up my 2 gap years at the moment! Sitting back and waiting for post-interview decisions can be stressful, however.

Sounds like your body just b!tch slapped you into slowing down for a day. Cheers.
