I take issue with those saying there never has been a difference.

Sure the new Dental WiFi Act 802.11g that was put into effect in October limited those differences, but prior to that it was only DDS degree holders that could actually work on patients. All DMDs had to hire assistants to do the majority of their work for them.

Further, 802.11g has ensured that all new dental students will receive the DMD degree, unless their DAT scores are below a 20, in which case they will receive the DDS degree. This is the ADAs way of ensuring the public knows about the poor students and avoids spending money at their establishments.

Gavin,
I hate to correct you, but 802.11g states that all dentists must employ the obligatory number of three female dental hygienists at any time as mandated by the ADA. 802.14-b is the law that you are referring to in your post. It?s unfortunate that you are not knowledgeable in this area of dentistry; my guess is that you will make a horrible dentist. That?s IF you get into dental school. Please do your homework before posting on here.

I haven't been around the dental forums for too long, but I guarantee this topic gets brought up at least once a month. I think Henna (our only active moderator) needs to round up all the "DDS vs DMD" threads, combine them, and make a sticky at the top of the pre-dental forums.

what ya'll think

By the way, with WiFi 802.11g, the speed of service at DMD dental office is several times faster than DDS. If I remember correctly, 10 times faster (correct me if I'm wrong). Of course, with 3 extra female hygienists. What do you think Dental WiFi 802.11b will last ? Most people I've known are already on 802.11g.

I think thats the main reason why we have so many few 3rd and 4th years staying on SDN. They're so sick of answering the same questions over and over and over and over.......

Better yet, there should be a sticky telling the newbies to search before they start a new thread.

Good idea. I think we should also make the newbies do 300 push-ups and drink 17 shots of Skull vodka. Stupid newbies 🙂

Please elaborate on this😕 What if your school issues a DDS?

They're just pulling your leg.

lmgonza2,

Alright, if there is one person to listen to in this forum, you have to listen to me! The difference between DMD and DDS is that, DMD is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better!

DDS don't even have full prescription rights, further, their scope of practice is VERY limited! The DDSs can't even do endo or extractions!

Also, DMD make much, much more money!! Oh yeah, $$$, is where's at!

DDSs are weak and they can't even specialize!

Must go to a DMD school!

Andy

What are you all talking about! 802.11 is the old protocol for wireless electric handpeices. 802.11b is a newer protocol that allows dentists wireless handpeices AND wireless cavitrons that automatically webcast your procedure to all dental students. Duh!

Obviously this has nothing to do with DMD vs DDS which is now the issue of interest on the people's court!

kekee   I'm just playing with all ya folks. Of course I know what 802.11 mean. I used to work as Network Admin for 3 yrs. 😀

BINGO! I'm nearly outta here (yeah, seriously).

There is a
Forum etiquette
on the international forum which I think would help newbies, would you guys like me to place a sticky similar to that in the pre-dent forum ?

We can modify or add to it to suit this forum.

Actually, I could. I have DentalTown, which thus far is MUCH more informative from an academic/dental standpoint than SDN probably ever will be.

But for the sheer kicks, SDN can't be beat (hence The Longue).

I think the correct order is from poster to lurker on here and vice versa on dt. Do you post on there often?
