I did my bds from LMDC and finished last year.
I'm in the waiting process right now to see if i get into NYU. I was interviewd there a couple weeks ago...now i'm back in lahore just waiting to see what happens...

yeah i was placed on the waiting list at NYUCD so i'm gonna take my boards again probably in august i just dusted off the ol' books two days ago and started. It's such a pain in the ass to have to do it all over again but hey, what can u do right?

Well I'm new to this forum and was glad to see that he has a couple of people from Pakistan here. Going to appear for the boards in November and would be glad if you could answer a few questions.

Firstly, I am not an American citizen or green card holder so I will have to rely on private loans if I get in. That means a lot of money plus interest. Most dentists from overseas who come to the U.S go into geeneral practice as that is the way to pay back those loans. Do you guys have any idea how diificult it is to go into speciality training in the U.S for people in my position? I am from de'mont too (2001 batch) and I don't know a lot of people who actually came here and did something. Would be great to actually talk to someone.

Anyway hope we remain in touch.

well no idea who u r , well i graduated in 2003. in nyc right now , my score was 85 in part one so improving it again in aug. well about private loans no idea , the only thing i know thru my friends here in nyc whos been in practice for over ten yrs . it will be like ull be on ur toes for the first five yrs after that ull get the hang of . but look at the bright side all ppl here work hard so its easy as compared to usmle guys doing over night shifts .

khurram really if u were here in nyc we could have done discussion . were lik bunch of dentist from india n pakistan here in newyork city who r writing the boards again in aug. so its really nice studying environment . this time we r really taking it seriously . we r going slow n steady this time n we all r in kaplan here .

any ways all u guys best of luck , n we really will rock the dental schools here . trust me once ur in , its easy to take the rest of the steps. so i would recommend not to worry about students loans, esp private one right now . and that goes double for u moneeza. besides private loans are still on very low apr 2.5% . its nothing as compare to wht u get even with perfect credit for ur house equity loans . so taking loans should be much of an issue here .

Hemm..let's see it has been so long..I can't even remember which class that is..Yeah I think i get is..the class which had 'bunta' in rite? Anyway nice getting to know u...

Well well well we have some people from de'mont here. Anyway, like salman I have no idea who you are. I still have doubts who salman is by the way!!! I mean I know you are from our batch But i just don't remember. A 'sahreef accha baccha' - right! That species was non-existent in De'mont. There were these 3 guys in my class who used to hang out together, all day scholars, maybe u're one of them. One was fat. one wore specs and the third was crazy! Which one were u? maybe Mr. Veritas can help. 🙂

Well you are right you do not have to go through the tension we are going through right now. I mean I should be studying but just cannot decide if it is worth it. Not a lot of pakistanis end up in the U.S. Certainly, not a lot of people from my college. There is the visa thing, but sometimes I think seeing how hard working people are back home if they came here they would certainly shine. There was a girl in our class - American citizen - she was brilliant. I'm sure she must have done her DDS by now. I wonder where she is?

salman ji , sir im from bunta class , n afeef n umer daud ppl . my name is zeeshan . and i dont know if u met me back there in demont because i used to spend 5 to 6 months here in newyork n rest of the time in demont . so basically shugal mein hi bds kia tha. infact i used to come back just 5 months before my prof exams. in final yr i just acame back lik 2 months before the prof. so im not sure if ull recognize me or not , any way im living with an other gut from 2002 session . demont .

last time we just took two wks off from the job and gave the boards. so i was stuck with 85 . this time we r studying for three months n really reading kaplan so hope fully well score .

moneeza i dont know if i know u or nor but def we used to have crush on alot of our seniors . n when i first came in demont the first thing i said was that how come we have so many good looking n awesome seniors n junk girls in our class .

khuram bro i know ur lucky in a sense that we can apply to stony brook also from this yr . they r opening a brand new advance standing program from this yr . so they will accomodate 10 to 20 students . we all r also us citizens here .

I really did not take that much interest in u're class (come on u were 2 years junior!).Anyway, let's see I do remember the other guys u mentioned but I must have seen u. But then I still am not 100% sure who salman is - the idiot is not telling me. I have narrowed him down to 3 boys. But then I guess u do not know who I am either. I was not one of the pretty girls you would have noticed - I'm sure u remember the trio from Islamabad - especially Atiqa .or even Aliya. From y're class I remember bunta and that weird girl ursala 🙄 and hey ..u were from that batch that had that big scandal -rite!! Yeah Now I know u're class.

Salman is I believe headed off to the U.K. I think he passed the MFDS first part. Me, I'm still confused. But hey keep in touch....

coming back to the point . remem its demont post so better be informative.
well guys from all over the world dont worry about loans . hop on and enjoy the ride. only things that u have to worry is scoring above 90 in part one. thats wht it counts . they dont take into account wht ur part two score is .
esp for us because we r competing with indians an there r so many indians coming . so our merit is usually high above 90's as compared to hispanic and other dentist . so guys keep it up .

One of my very good indian friends got a 92. Also one of my Pakistani friends a 95. I think th exam is not tough. Plus we have a very good background. For me, it is the financial aspect that is worrying. I think I'll find a American guy to get a green card 🙂
Anyway zeeshan I don't think u're senior class was that good. The one that was senior to us was the best But hey I guess boys have diiferent standards.

well two of them said they strictly followed decks , uknow rata, and old papers . some said they have followed kaplan . kaplan is to extensive for dentistry standards but its worth a try . so monneza n salman if u guys r really serious about coming here then forgot about minor problems lik loans and conc on part one

Well time for some serious talk now. I am planning to give the exam in november. I know it is kinda late but I have not even started yet. no choice eh? Secondly, as I have to have my GPA evaluated was wondering how the equivalence works out. I mean generally we score low in our profs - which is hideous by US standards. I will just apply to the 3 northeast colleges - am in no shape or form to give the clinical exam, I guess I should not have relied on Eric too much 😉

well nov is kinda late but i guess ur just interested in northern schools .
evaluation is usually done by ECE and WES . northern schools usually accept ECE with the exception of NYU . NYU works with both of them .

Evaluation is 3 to 4 wks procedure and will cost u btwn 100 to 200 bucks. as far as our prof and us standards are concerened well alot of ppl from my class and our college got a very decent GPA . so its worth a try .Once u get ur evaluation done then there is nothing much u can do to improve it other than to do ur pre dental again .

wht else dont worry clinical skills is not a big deal . they usually ask u to do MOD on premolars and fixed prosthesis prep . Clinical practice classes are offered here .so they give u hands on training of all the instruments u ll be using and wht kind of clinical exams ull be expecting .
