DOGE is coming for some of you...

DOGE coming for people?

“On Friday, the Trump administration announced that it would delay a Biden-era plan to restrict Medicare’s coverage of skin substitutes, saying that it was reviewing its policies until at least 2026. President Trump had received a large campaign donation from a leading bandage seller and skewered the plan on social media.”

so the doctor is getting paid for the actual bandages made by a company? I thought kickbacks were illegal? And the entire article is during the Biden years, but they need to mention Trump?

“But experts in health care costs said the spike had been driven instead by sellers and doctors taking advantage of Medicare’s pricing rules. The government will reimburse any price that a company sets for brand-new skin substitutes, even if it is far above the market average. The higher the price, the larger the doctors’ cut.”

There is a local podiatrist who has been advertising specifically to Medicare patients for these stem cell patches for wound healing plus all sorts of purported benefits, and stories have spread through the old people communities about how miraculous they are. His clinic is very popular. People who couldn’t walk because of their neuropathy now taking daily strolls around the block. I told my patient it was Medicare fraud and she said did it really matter if it was doing some good?

We got into an argument because I wanted her to sign a release of records and she said No because she didn’t want me to get him into trouble
