Based on the AACOMAS CIB, it seems like applicants must choose a school before May 15, like similar to AMCAS. Just wanted to know/confirm if I understand correctly and whether if you guys are deciding on one school after paying deposits to one or more schools.

No. The system is not as neat and tidy as the MD schools. You basically have to pay the full deposit after the 15th of May immediately. This means you can still hold your other acceptances until you decide to relinquish them (i.e. until just before matriculation). You don't get a refund of your deposit either.

Wouldn't holding it until just before matriculation be kinda cruel though? Like once you make up your mind (which, congrats!) withdraw from the other schools immediately or as soon as you can because I know people without any acceptances who are waitlisted.

Correct, this is the ugly side of the whole thing. The high deposit fee is in part meant to be the deterrent to holding multiple acceptances, but one is going to pay that cost if it means a guaranteed acceptance in hand. It doesn't do anything but allow for the accepted applicant to dwell on their decision longer. This is the flaw of the system.

What about the guideline under the Application Process Guidelines in CIB? It says that after May 15, AACOMAS will report to the schools.

Right, this is what I thought also. At one school I interviewed, the admissions director stated this was a new feature this year (similar to MD school application process)... Where AACOMAS will publish a list to DO schools of where everyone is accepted. I suppose it's up to the individual schools what they want to do with that info. If I recall correctly, the admissions director at the school I'm referencing said that if they see accepted students who are also holding other DO acceptances, they would rescind the acceptance.

Is this taking effect this 2014-2015 cycle? Or is this the 2015-2016 cycle?

I am very confused. Can you clarify if this is true?

Can I place two deposits down on two schools while I am awaiting residency status (current NJ resident, and moved to NY at start of year). Thanks!

One school I interviewed at said they considered anyone holding multiple acceptances after May 15 unethical and would rescind. I wonder if the schools have some sort of agreement to do this together. It sounds like that may be the case.

Oh gosh no! I'm not that incredibly indecisive.

I hear back from my residency status in mid-Nov but the deposits are due Oct 30 and Nov something. I'm in a huge pickle because I don't want to end up paying a 50K extra if I can get in-state tuition, so for me, doing 2 deposits at least gives me peace of mind if I can save the 50K or go with the cheaper 2nd school.

So, can I put two deposits down in Oct. and then choose once I get my status in Nov and rescind before the 2nd deposit is due? Thanks!

Could you imagine having two acceptances held, then both schools rescind at the same time? Oh lawd
