Hi all,

I was just given a retail pharmacy job offer. However, the timeline I was given to decide was only 48 hours. All of my friends who have received offers were given 30 days to make a decision. Is this 48 hour window a little weird or is this a common practice? I do not want to rush into a huge life decision without being able to do all the necessary research.

I have my #1 choice for a retail pharmacist job scheduled to get back to me by the end of the month. I would really like to wait to hear from them because by accepting the current offer I run the risk of missing out on my top choice. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It's common. 48 hours is enough time to talk it over with a spouse/significant other/family. Any more time than that the company opens itself up to multiple offers/competition/etc.

Obviously the 48 hour time period is good because you obviously want to keep accumulating offers (your #1`choice) because you don't really want this one. If you did you would have accepted it the moment they offered it.

If you are a P4 and this is some sort of early intern offer I would just accept it and rescind if you get your number 1 choice. Just don't sign any contracts or what not.

As a P4 you can accept an offer without signing a contract? Up to when can you rescind/ have to sign a contract?

Accept the position. Don't sign a contract. You prob won't be asked to anyway. If they want make 48 hrs their commitment time then they have to deal with people committing in order to secure the position and then dumping them when they interview for another job.

But would doing this preclude me from ever working for that company again? I will find out about the other job by the end of the month so I might tell them I want an extension until then so I can go visit the other area, etc. and make a more informed decision.

Out of curiosity, what would a contract entail? What does it tie you? If you sign a contract and you reject the job for your #1, what exactly would that do to you?
