Hey guys, I was just wondering if we should list Dean's list on the amcas, and how to do that if we have been awarded with it more than 1 semester? On amcas, it only allows for one date...also, i only have 11 activities. thats why i wanted to put dean's list. should i try to think of 4 others to get the full 15? or do most people not have that many?

Check your transcript. The Dean's list was listed each quarter I was on them on mine.

Also, in my opinion, it really is the quality of the activities you list that matter more than the quantity. For example, I think you could only list one if that one was 'I cured cancer' :p .

I don't think you need to fill up all the allowed spots on the AMCAS (11 seems like plenty, as long as they are quality and meaningful), and something like the dean's list will either show up on your transcript or be evident if ADCOMS can see you got a 4.0 a couple of semesters (if they even look). Adding it to the activities seems redundant, and adds more paper to the huge pile they already have to sift through.

Just my $0.02 though!

I dont think you should do it. Your GPA by each year shows already how you are doing in your classes. I don't think you need to re-emphasize that.

I personally don't plan to include Dean's List. I think almost every qualified applicant made Dean's List at some point. It's not significant at all.

if you've made it every quarter or semester in college, i would definitely list it. plus if you have space, why not list it? all it takes up is a 1/4 of a page.

The way I see it, add it. Like Rocky said, it won't hurt if you have the space.

It not only validates your GPA but it also validates how many units you took. They don't go around giving Dean's List to slackers.

I wouldn't list it as a separate entry. Personally I do one section for awards, and fit it naturally into my awards paragraph right along side everything else.

So if we got a scholarship from our college and an English award, we should list them all under one activity? What should the experience name be? How would you structure the description?

List it under awards and honors. Enumerate them and then put a date and brief description it it's purpose is not self-evident (like a scholarship unique to your school, criteria for obtaining it, number of people who attained it). Dean's List could be added to this list also.

People make this comment often, but I don't think you're recognizing that honors like deans list and latin honors are based on how well you did relative to others in your class. A 3.7 without deans list is not as good as a 3.7 with deans list. Of course, if you have a 4.0, it's moot.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Because its compared its worth something IF you have room. At my school the only thing that gets you deans list is 4.0 because so many people get 4.0s that thats the top 4% (or whatever it is) that they give it to.

I did list Dean's list, though I wrote the multiple times I made Deans list in 1 entry instead of making a new entry for each semester.

"Moot." :)

Also, that's not universal; my college awarded dean's list if you got a semester GPA of 3.4 with 12+ credits. I don't know what percentage of the class that ended up being, but it definitely wasn't a ranked/comparative thing.

dang, that's a low GPA requirement.

ours required 3.7, 12 hours, and no Cs in any course, not limited in the number of people who could get it.

Same at my school. The more number of credits, the lower your GPA can be (3.8 approx. for 12 credits, 3.6 for 16 credits, and so on). Definitely not ranked.

That's crazy. Only one person in my graduating class had a 4.0 (0.05%).

Oh, and thanks for the catch, writer.

How would I enter Hours, and contact information? Should I list the dean?
