... me too. he is by FAR my first choice BUT I pretty much will end up voting for whoever they put up against obama.

I'm thinking Perry didn't look so electable tonight. Looking a little Bushesque. They made a big deal of the anti science angle. I'm a little frightened.

Polls shows the Independent Voters favor Romney. Romney even gets Democrats who have had enough of Obama. No, Romney isn't perfect but he will win the general election.

That was in an article I read this evening (I don't recall if it was linked from here on SDN or what), about internal consistency. In 2008, it was possible for a black man, a woman, and a Mormon to be on the ticket. People were able to internally reconcile a black man for President. Now, however, are the Mormons the new Catholics (as was the fear 50 years ago, when JFK was running)? I don't think so, considering there are estimates of 60 million Catholics, but only 5.5 million Mormons. That makes LDS less than 2% of the US population. (Interestingly, Mormons are over-represented in the US Senate, with 5 - Harry Reid-NV, Mike Crapo-ID, Tom Udall-NM, and Mike Lee & Orrin Hatch of Utah - and Reid is majority leader, whereas Hatch is the senior Republican.) I don't think Americans are ready for a Mormon President (I mean, honestly - I've seen people conflate Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Scientists, and Mormons, and paint them all with the same brush of "different").
Oh, and the Supreme Court? 6 Catholics and 3 Jews. Sorry Baptists!
And 5 from the NY/NJ metro area, two from California (SF and Sacramento - screw you LA!), and Clarence Thomas from Georgia, and John Roberts, who grew up in Indiana. So, Texas, most of the midwest, all of the middle states, and all but the Bay Area get the Heisman, too!

I am actually pretty happy with the repubican field right now. Both Perry and Romney have what it takes to unseat Obama.

I've always wondered if I should vote based purely on what kind of judges I think the winner might appoint.
The biggest problem to me is that the left-appointed Justices tend to believe in all civil rights except the 2nd Amendment, whereas the right-appointed Justices tend to believe the only civil right that matters is the 2nd Amendment.
The lone exception I can think of is actually Clarence Thomas of all people, whose concurring opinion to McDonald pretty clearly demonstrated that he's the only one of the wretched lot who favors reversing the racist and oppressive Slaughter-House abomination, and putting real meaning back into the phrase "privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States" ...
I bet Ron Paul would appoint judges willing to uphold the whole Bill of Rights.
