.I am a pre vet/pre-med. I am not going into the long story of why I am both.
Anyway, I want a job working in a human hospital. It seems like everything you can do and that is more clinical related is hard to get or you have to be certified. My ideas were patient transport, OR tech and pharm tech (which I could get easier).
I have been a pharmacy technician for 2 years now. In the next month, I plan on studying for the national tech test. This test is different from the little CVS training books and passing their CVS test. Since I know these jobs are very limited, I would have to volunteer in the pharmacy department and if they like me, maybe I could get a job.
I am just sort of thinking I am off track if I obtain a hospital pharm tech job instead of seeing doctors and patients for clinical experiences. Never laying my eyes on patients or a doctor is not a good thing. I worked my way up to a potentially higher level of pharmacy work. What do you think it more relevant to do? Is being a pharm tech at a hospital and shadowing with volunteering in the same one hospital as beneficial as just being a OR tech?.
.Although, it is still medically related, I just wonder how it is looked at from a adcoms view. I heard they do not care at all if you were a pharm tech, but do if you are a OR. Is this true because the OR tech people get to know the attendings and etc.? I guess you would have a much higher yield to get into medical school, especially if the hospital was affiliated with a medical school.
I have to work unfortunately during my undergrad to pay debt and I need to save money. Just volunteering and no job is not an option for me.
.
Thank you 🙂
