Why is there a big gap between average indebtedness at UCLA vs. total cost for four years, $246,656? Is there rest payed for with grants and scholarships? What if you did not get a scholarship, closer to total cost?

I am just a predent, but my guess is some have 0 to little debt from parents or military scholarships. The rest have a debt of full tuition. The average of these two groups could come out to 147 thousand.

Could it be that tuition was cheaper for the dentists that just graduated compared to those just entering school?
