Is/has anybody gone the expensive private school route to obtain their MOT? I am afraid this will be my only option and I will be left with 100K in loan debt! Is it worth it? I could wait another year and a half and go to the state school...but they only offer a combined BS/MS, so I would have to transfer in as a junior even though I already have a Bachelor's in another field. Would saving thousands be worth the wait and risk?

Which program are you looking at Ginaw623? I am also in Ohio. I did not apply to Ohio State. I applied to U of T last year but did not get in. Are you looking at Xavier or Findlay? I decided against both programs because of the BS/MS stuff. I graduated in 2001 in California and it's alrady cost me tons of money to retake classes so I would be in compliance with schools that want prereqs within the last 5-10 years.

I'm also terrified about the debt. I turned down 2 interviews last year because I just couldn't deal with the idea of that sort of debt. I have a friends who have taken on 100k for medical, vet, and PA school. Right now they are struggling. So it is frightening for sure. I totally understand!

I got accepted into Findlay last year and would be doing their weekend program right now except couldn't afford it! They offered nothing as far as aid goes. I too have wasted tons of time taking pre-requisites for certain schools only to find I would not be attending that particular school. Toledo waitlisted me last year and then I didn't make it in. I didn't reapply this year and I didn't apply to Ohio State because I didn't think I stood a chance (my GRE was low). I did go to OSU for undergraduate though. I am likely moving to the Buffalo, NY area in a few months for my boyfriend's job, so I am currently talking about a school called D'Youville...it is a small private school. It is $790 a credit hour UGH! So I also started looking into the University at Buffalo (good state school) where tuition is only like 5500 a year for residents! The only problem with that program is it's one of those stupid combined BS/MS programs where I would have to enter as a junior and do 3 years. Also I would have to wait another year and finish MORE pre-requisites that they require before entry into the program. SIGH! I don't know what to do this is a pain in the butt.

not to mention I am already 40K in debt from my Bachelor's Degree...

d'youville is about 60k in tuition...that isn't too bad compared to other private schools.

D'Youville is actually the school im talking about lol

I'm from Buffalo and I did my volunteer work with several OTs that went to D'Youville. The general consensus as far as debt was that they borrowed from $80k - $86k to attend D'Youville for the 3 years after all tuition, taxes, fees, supplies, and any other living expenses that they needed help with was said and done. While being able to work roughly 20 hours a week with their course load.

D'Youville is a 3 year program and it sounds like you would finish UB's program in 4 years. One year isn't a lot to add on when you're talking about that type of price difference. I got my bachelor's degree from UB and I absolutely loved the school. The campus is huge which I love and I had a really good experience. I'm not sure which campus OT is based on but UB's main campus is in Amherst which is a very safe town and the campus is like it's own little city. You can get practically anything you could want right on campus. D'Youville is in downtown Buffalo and it's pretty ghetto. You would definitely get more personal attention at D'Youville though since it is so small.

Misericordia in Pennsylvania has a weekend program for students with bachelors degrees in other fields, so at least you can keep working when you go to school. They also have a good doctoral program for therapists thats mostly online. Im not sure about the tuition though
