hey guys, I had a question about my MCAT scores and whether or not i should retake. I ended up with a 32S overall, 14BS, 10VR, 8PS. While im very happy with my overall score, Im not sure if the PS score is high enough to not be considered the "breaking point" of my application. I have no doubt I can bring it up, Im just not sure I can replicate a 14 again in biological sciences. Also, this is my third time taking this exam unfortunately, my last score was a 29. GPA is a 3.9, I have some research (undergraduate chemistry), and pretty typical ECs/volunteering, nothing too crazy tho.

Based on those factors, is my PS score low enough that you would suggest a retake?

I would say stick with the score, also you said it's been your 3rd time taking it. With your GPA and MCAT, you should be fine for sure. Good luck

thanks for the responses so far. is there a general rule of thumb for most schools for when an individual section is low enough to warrant a retake? id appreciate any further opinions anyone has, thanks.

I think the magic number is 7. If a section is a 7 or lower then you should consider retaking. Generally most ppl will say if you scored 30+ and no section is below an 8 then don't retake. (i think thts wut most ppl would say)

What were your previous PS scores on the other exams? Have you been improving every time, or has it been about the same? I think it really depends on the school. Yeah it's lop sided, but 10 verbal is not bad, and of course 14 bio is stellar. If you got another 32, 12 bio, 10 PS, 10 VR, most would say that double digits across the board is better.

yeah i really would have rather it turned out that way, the question is will my PS go up by more than my BS goes down

Some of your state schools have a cut off of 7, but I know of several schools who will automatically reject someone for not having double-digit scores in all 3 categories. So just steer clear of those and you should be fine. You can also consult the MSAR which shows the lowest MCAT score from each section that they accepted last year.

Are you going to keep them a secret?

with a 3.9 and the magic 8 on the bad section, you are good to go. Your chances of getting an acceptance with a 32 and 3.9 are >80%.
