Does anyone know which programs are decent, meaning you get good enough training, yet they are not the most competitve? I ask because My board score of 204/84 put me out of the competitive program range I think.

Thanks for your replies.

Brand new third year at NSU? congrats -- I am a IV there, also interested in anesthesiology.
I am doing away rotations at SLU and UMiss. Both are solid programs that are DO friendly. also look into miami as I heard through the grapevine that they usually have a spot each year for a DO from NSU. my buddy is hoping that this year is his year, miami is not for me. my class has record numbers of people wanting anes. last year 2 matched into anes - UF and miami i think... this year i think about 15 people are applying for anes. so you will be able to get a good idea from how we do...i know some of their stats so I will share after match day.
where are you doing your third year rotations? here's my advice... give everything a fair shot in third year...don't make up your mind too early. we don't get to do electives but depending on what hospital you are at some of the surgeons will tolerate a few days away from your surgery rotation to get some anes. towards the end of third year start setting up away rotations.
there are some threads about DO friendly programs so do a search. 204 doesn't suck -- just plan on rocking step II. pm me when you get ready to take it -- i have some goljan step II stuff I'll give you, etc. Good luck!
if you are at memorial you will have a slacker easy year. broward is half hard, half cush. palm beach schedule is harsh at times. just remember, there will be times this year (if you are at one of the tougher rotation sites) that you may question your decision to become a doctor -- don't worry about it, happens to everyone...just get some sleep and it will be better in the morning. 🙂

practically all programs are "decent", with only a few ranking (unofficially) as "most competitive", and even those will look at a Step 1 of 204 if you have other high points on your application - a strong improvement with Step 2, good LOR, unique personal statement, research, connections, etc. etc. don't sell yourself short, apply widely, you'll be surprised. blah blah blah. this response will be cut and pasted about 100 times in the coming months 😉
