Decent view of the cords, trouble passing the tube?

I realize I'm not in a position to ask questions here, but I'm wondering if it's easy for the newbie to "scrape" the cords with the tip using a miller when lifting the epiglottis directly?

Only if they are careless.
Aggressive forward thrusting would likely be needed for this. if you have your blade too deep you shouldnt be scraping cords you are in esophagus.

Thanks. I can picture it as you describe it. Again, never intubated a person with a miller, and, honestly, don't know if I'll ever get to,except for children on rare occasions, given the Mac's dominance over here, and the fact that almost every hospital has a d-bladed storz C-Mac these days when DL fails.

Norski:
You are more likely to just go into the esophagus if you go too deep with a Miller blade. When I teach novices, I compare it to a snow shovel and remind them it is not a crowbar. 😉

Dr Wine: I'll definitely keep that in mind. On that note; how are your snow shovels shaped? Over here, they're gently curved like a mac blade. Straight bladed shovels just aren't that common.
