Hey guys!
So I am on the pre dental track. Currently im majoring in biology, but i think its too much and d0n't know if I want to follow through with it. I was thinking about switching to Health Promotion and minoring in chemistry. This way I can still get all the pre reqs, do a major i like, and still have a strong minor in chem. My only concern is will i have a good chance getting into dental school? I know that I can major in anything and can still apply. But I want to make sure this major will be good for my future. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

you can get with any major to dental school, Engineering Business even Spanish but like this you will almost be double major and you will take alot of classes but a lot of people take any major and take the pre-request for dental school

You can major in anything, but if you don't like Biology and think undergrad Bio is too much, dental school's not going to be very fun for you.

major in something you're good at! preferably science! this way you will have a high oGPA and sGPA (because you tend to do better at things you like)

If you think an undergraduate biology major is hard, then you will absolutely be roasted alive in dental school.

Major in something that will get you a career if dental school ends up not working out:

Petroleum Engineering.

Pick a major you want for the reasons you want. I'm an over-planner, so I picked a major that would allow me to have a fall back career if for some reason I could not get into dental school or decided I did not want to when the time came.

Just do well in whatever major it is.

don't come in with this loser mentality. think about this selection process. the average to above average students from high school go onto college. then the top students from college get to go onto dental school. then the top dental students get to go onto specialties. in a way college is easy. if you put in the time, of which you have plenty, you'll get straight As. compare this to dental school where you have little free time and yet are loaded with +25 credits worth of classes. your best effort may not result in the straight As anymore. but for college, there's plenty of time for you to be able to get straight As.

college is a time where you push yourself well beyond the amount of effort you put into high school. the same is true for dental school. it's not easy but the quicker you meet the demands of college's expectations, the quicker you raise your normal threshold for what feels difficult.
So start with high expectations and goals that are matched by the same level of commitment and effort.

to give you an idea of the level of difficulty. in college you'll study all weekend before the exam and you should do well. as you take more credits and add more extracurriculars, you'll start studying a little almost every day. in dental school, you'll have to study everyday with the same amount of effort as you put in during those weekends before exams from when you were in college. it'll be exhausting at first but you adapt and get used to it. my best advice is to never whine. not even once. whining and bitching is loser mentality. you gotta be stoic and roll with the punches without ever complaining even to your friends and family. one difference between top dental students at my school and the people in college who i knew would never get into medical or dental school is whether or not they complained. there will be whiners in dental school but if they're whiners, they're also probably not in the top 10.

but it doesn't matter what you major in so long as you do well on all your predental prerequisites and the dat and have a high overall gpa.
