I'm looking at some options. My science GPA is low (3.2) and my regular GPA is 3.5 with all As in non-premed classes. I could turn my minor into a double major (humanities) and I'm pretty confident I'll get all As in the humanities and that would bump up my regular GPA a lot. However, my science GPA is the real problem here right? So should I take more upper level science courses to try and balance that out instead? I would usually settle this by following my heart or whatever but honestly I'm equally interested in the coursework and would just like to choose the advantageous thing for my application next year. Any comments or thoughts are appreciated!

You'll probably want to get that sGPA up as much as possible

Take as many upper-level sciences as you can handle (wouldn't want that cGPA to suffer as well) and if we're talking MD, you might need to consider a post-bacc for that sGPA. A few upper-level courses won't make a significant difference and SMPs don't affect undergrad GPA. Keep in mind that EC's, shadowing, etc. are also very important for your application but a low enough sGPA is going to hold you back.

If we're talking DO, you could retake a few of your science pre-reqs, striving for A's, and take advantage of the grade replacement policy. This is your best bet for a shorter route. Again, work on maintaining a strong application overall.

Thanks for the advice! I'll focus on getting some upper level science courses next year with as manageable a grading scheme as possible. A post-bacc is very high on my list of probable things next year, but we'll see how next year pans out.

Yeah you should definitely just focus on your sGPA. You're gonna want your overall and science GPA as similar as possible. A really high oGPA and low sGPA doesn't look good.
