Please confirm... we are back to December 15th?
How's everyone feeling with less than a month to go?

i'm not seeing the three part article...@Ryxndek : I appreciate/like where you are thinking. I suggest directing the question to recent residents or graduates. They will have a better idea of the value of their training based on specific actions they took. I always wanted a few recent grads who were on New Dentist committees at their local or state associations to help me answer questions from accepted students. It is definitely a big topic on their agenda.
I wrote a 3-part series for ADEA GoDental on what happens on Decision Day (search for the article). They have permission to update as necessary on their blog. My original "While You Are Waiting " as it were.
they moved it in 2020 and 2021 due to covidJus wondering why did they had to push it to the 15th?? 😭
I thought last year was dec 1stthey moved it in 2020 and 2021 due to covid
the schools wanted more time to make their acceptance lists...
oh yeah, it wasI thought last year was dec 1st
That's why I am just confirming if they didn't move it again... 😉 I go by what is on the ADEA website but there may be a huge lag...oh yeah, it was
sorry, my mistake...
Are you saying some schools send hard copies in lieu of an official email? Or do they do both?Just a reminder to get Informed Delivery for USPS or delivery tracking notifications from UPS or FedEx. While I think more schools are moving towards making offer let's available on their portals or electronic means, there may still be some schools that send official hard copies. If you receive notifications about packages being delivered to you, you may be able to get advanced warning of an offer packet coming to you. Or a Christmas or other holiday present.
Check the last few years' school specific threads. I don't know if this was discontinued due to the pandemic. But prior to the pandemic, some schools would send letters by FedEx, UPS, or USPS timed to Decision Day. There is a reason why they track delivery of the letters. Are you saying some schools send hard copies in lieu of an official email? Or do they do both?
Just wanting to make sure, I hate the idea of an offer letter getting lost in the mail and being totally oblivious.
Huh, that's interesting. At any rate I would imagine that the pandemic changed protocol for schools who do still prefer snail mail. I'd certainly prefer email, but having a hard copy in addition to it would be kinda cool.Check the last few years' school specific threads. I don't know if this was discontinued due to the pandemic. People love hard copies for whatever reason, including proof for HPSP.
A reminder in advance of Decision Day 2022:
Check your online profiles and voice-mail greetings.
Granted you should have done this "yesterday" or as soon as the application process opened up. But make sure you clean your junk mail, your online profiles, and your voice-mail greetings because these will be looked over. Some schools will call you on Decision Day, so make sure you have a personal greeting set up that is professional. They won't leave a message on all likelihood if they get an automated greeting.
This can include advance notice of communication for scholarships.
QQ: how does this functionally work? From the day applications are submitted to Dec 15th, do dental schools go on to cherry pick their most notable applicants? Do they go on to let the rest of the typical/average and below applicants know whether they have an interview or not by Dec 15th?Please confirm... we are back to December 15th?

Depends on the schools' strategies on filling the class and notifying everyone who has interviewed. Rejections can occur at any time. Interview notifications could occur after the first wave of "offered not accepted" go through as those with offers finally drop their interview spots post December.QQ: how does this functionally work? welp, all I can say is that I haven't been rejected yet. lmaoDepends on the schools' strategies on filling the class and notifying everyone who has interviewed. Rejections can occur at any time.
Yes some schools have. Hopefully they told you on your interview day. If not, check the archives for people posting around D-days about which schools tend to do phone calls ("what letter of the alphabet do they start with?" may help you in your search).I have been dying to know, do any schools contact you about not being accepted on Dec 15th?? As in, if I get a call/email that day, it will be an acceptance call and not a rejection call, right? My nerves are starting to get me! 😵
What an exciting time!
I’ll get to you about it! I had to take Casper for CWRU this year. Also, if you had to take Casper as part of the application process, can you send a DM/conversation to me? I am interested in how Casper results aligns with decisions. If you haven't seen it, there is an article about SJTs that we published, with another post to come.
What is done is in the past. Focus on what is ahead of in front of you. Que sera sera.I know it's only 10 days away. But still, I feel very anxious. On paper, I should be ok. But I keep doubting my interview performance. It is so hard to wait. It is so horrible to imagine the potential denials from the schools. I'm very old now. I don't want to wait for another year. I hope you'll who are also anxiously waiting will get the best result in 10 days. I hope to see some of you in the same dental school next summer! Good luck and best wishes to everyone who has fought so hard for this.

Any chance you could provide a starting point for how to ask without sounding like an idiot or blowing your chances with a school? I feel like I would get anxious trying to have a conversation about scholarship should I get a couple and then trying to negotiate. If you get multiple scholarship offers….don’t be afraid to ask for a little more if it may sway your decision
I would start by thinking about what value you bring to the school and its mission. How compatible are you and what perspective would you bring to the class. This is often where networking with students before applying helps.Any chance you could provide a starting point for how to ask without sounding like an idiot or blowing your chances with a school? “I really loved your school and would be very excited to attend there. However, school X offered me a scholarship/is my in state school that makes it very affordable. Would it be possible to increase my scholarship to be competitive in cost with school X?”Any chance you could provide a starting point for how to ask without sounding like an idiot or blowing your chances with a school? I have a final that runs from 8am-10am on the 15th. I tried requesting to take it earlier but it was denied since it wasn't an emergency. I'm afraid that I'm going to miss phone calls because of my final. How detrimental is it if I miss the acceptance phone call? Would anything change if I call them back after my exam?I also may note that scholarships are not all the same. A scholarship may come with specific criteria that helps a program with retaining desirable communities or perspectives. Sure there may be more full tuition scholarships for those from underserved or disadvantaged backgrounds because that is how those scholarships are designated by donors.
Another thing to consider is that you may be eligible for other scholarships once you are a student. You could be a strong candidate if you apply along with a strong track record in your courses. This is where having a supportive student services office is extremely helpful as they can find such candidates when these internal scholarships come up.
Some of those scholarships are available outside the school. If you don't get a full ride, find out from financial aid if they can help you apply for those scholarships.
These are all possible calculations that go into whether you would be a good candidate for a specific scholarship. Would your story be one that connects with other alumni and donors as an example or future leader in your school? Needless to say, most student profiles shown by alumni offices feature those who received scholarships so how well you compare to them may give you an idea of what it takes to get a scholarship.
No, just make sure your voicemail is set up.I have a final that runs from 8am-10am on the 15th. I tried requesting to take it earlier but it was denied since it wasn't an emergency. Yes I will be doing this I just wanted to make sure if I missed a call it wouldn't be detrimental to the acceptanceNo, just make sure your voicemail is set up.
you will be fine...Yes I will be doing this I just wanted to make sure if I missed a call it wouldn't be detrimental to the acceptance
From my earlier missive on this... just set up your voice mail as advised. Only a completely inappropriate and unprofessional voicemail could jeopardize an offer at this point.you will be fine...
I’ll make sure to say f*ck at least 3 times in my voicemail, thanksFrom my earlier missive on this... just set up your voice mail as advised. Only a completely inappropriate and unprofessional voicemail could jeopardize an offer at this point.
I'm surprised that people still make calls, but many deans like doing this.
I'd watch the language if it were a real call.I’ll make sure to say f*ck at least 3 times in my voicemail, thanks
